Lord of Vampyrium
Pieces of Hate
Fate of the Gods
Azzanadra's Quest (this isn't much gameplay but it's seriously cool lore/story)
The Needle Skips
Desperate Measures
Children of Mah
Dishonnor Among Thieves
Kindred Spirits
Gower Quest
The Death of Chivalry
Rune Memories
Heart Stealers
Carneillean Rising
The Firemaker's Curse
Personally I think of this list you'll like The Needle Skips and The Firemaker's Curse. They are both mystery quests like Broken Home that have very unique gameplay, large emphasis on puzzles, and in general are just very strong pieces of writing.
The Needle Skips was one of the prereqs for Broken Home! I did enjoy it! There are some there that I’m eager to check out!
Edit: I was wrong, lol. I was thinking of Desperate Times, which I also did.
It's been actual years since I've done major questing, but I remember enjoying Darkness of Hallowvale alot.
For example, I loved the recent Azzanadra's Quest, because the storyline and lore is a major reason for me to play the game, and that quest tied together and expanded upon several important plot points. However, I would imagine that many other players will just spacebar through the quest dialog and then complain that there wasn't any bosses or stuff to fight...
Also, I didn't like Broken Home. Horror and timed content are a major turn off for me, and I have no plans to attempt the quest replays. Ever.
That's totally fair though! I'm hugely into horror and the quest played like horror games I'd enjoy. Check the doors before opening, find clues, etc.
I haven't done Azzandra's, but I do love the RS lore too.
I wouldn't say it was for nothing though since The Needle Skips was pretty important what with it introducing the needle and its user Gail. The Needle and its user having since become a major factor in the lore and tied to one of the biggest expansions to the world in ages.
There is the Pirate quest series which is this mix of comedy and lovecraft. With the horror elements balanced out by the comedy but it steadily becomes increasingly darker. With its epilogue (since it's conclusion was Pieces of Hate) quest Curse of the Blackstone being pretty serious and has an amazingly ominous atmosphere.
Then there is a Shadow over Ashdale which is one of two quests based on Lovecraft's a shadow over innsmouth, the other is Horror from the Deep which unlike Shadow over Ashdale isn't tied to Xau-Tak. We also have the Rag and Bone Man quest series which consists of two quests Rag and Bone Man & Fur and Seek.
Beyond that there is completing the "Lovingly Crafted" achievement which is achieved by finding all the journals talking about Xau-Tak's history and influence in the world. Some come from quests and miniquests, others are dropped by unspeakable horrors, and some are found by exploring. I mean you COULD Just read the journal entries on the wiki but what fun is that?
For the record my suggested order of this content is...
Rum Deal > Cabin Fever > The Great Brain Robbery > Rocking Out > A Clockwork Syringe > Rag and Bone Man > Fur and Seek > A Shadow Over Ashdale > Lovingly crafted achievement > Pieces of Hate > Curse of the Black Stone
I think that makes the tightest narrative experience.
Thank you!! I think until dxp I'm going to be getting quests done, and I'm 100% using this list. I have completed some of the ones there, but I'm looking forward to getting the rest of them done.
Then you're in for some fun because you can replay it several times in order to unlock certain rewards and achievements.
