If you want a reccomendation from what you should start with now, I would reccomend sticking to melle, then probably training magic or range, however, getting magic done early allows you access to teleportation to locations and enchantments, since magic offers skilling oppurtunities.
Or just do slayer and train all three, using the one for your task that fits the best.
but it all ends in what you feel best doing and stick with that. also lev up the others like the above posts have said
For example, if you're using magic exclusively and come up against a monster that also uses magic but is weak to ranged attacks, you won't be scoring many hits against him, meaning that you'll be spending a awfully long time trying to take him down while he will be doing damage against you since he will most likely be higher leveled than you are.
At this point, since you are new and low leveled, it's fine to just stick to whichever one is more fun for you to play but as you get into Slayer and move around the game world more, you will encounter monsters that use 2 of the 3 styles available and is capable of switching between them as they fight you. You will need to be ready for that by countering their moves.
You'll learn more about the Combat Triangle later on (which attack form is best against the others, namely: Melee beats Ranged, Ranged beats Magic and Magic beats Melee) so you'll better understand how important it is to use the correct equipment and weapons and attack styles in order to train more efficiently.
You will need to train them all as well as Prayer and Summoning. They don't all have to be done at once but you will need them down the road.
- Magic is the most versatile and currently the most powerful.
- Melee is BY FAR the cheapest style to upgrade, its not even a contest.
It doesn't make them immune, it just makes the more likely to be hit by certain styles than others. I, for example, had no issue finally getting to 99 ranged last double xp weekend while using it on slayer tasks killing corrupted workers, even though ranged is the style they're most resistant to.
That said, some monsters will be immune, or virtually immune, to some attack styles or all but one. A few examples: Rune Dragons require dragonbane ammunition for their first phase, Nex will use different protection prayers during different phases, Tormented Demons will cycle through different protection prayers. In general, however, what I said in the previous paragraph applies. Using a monster's weakness will make you more efficient at killing it, but it's not generally required.
