Dying in Wilderness = vanished items/no gravestone?
A friend and I were farming green dragons and he took his shield off, resulting in near instant death. I managed to save his coins but everything else was lost. I was standing next to where he died and neither of us could see his weapons or armor.

CAN YOU FKN READ? the guy asked.... "do players just not get a gravestone anymore?"
and I answered THAT question,.. players DO get gravestones still, maybe not on wilderness but around the world they do.. LMFAO! and to answer your question.. NO! I haven't died in the wilderness cos im too fkn skilled !!
lol you gettin mad even tho you didnt answer the correct question. op asked why they lost stuff in the wildy, not if theres gravestones in the open world

everyplace minus the wildy and some other places (quest fights, etc) - you drop a gravestone if you dont pay death to get your itms back

in the wildy - NO GRAVESTONE

First, did he have a skull on his head? If so, he loses/drops everything (excluding select few items) on the ground upon dying.

Second, what kind of items were they? Some armors and weapon turn in to gold upon dropping in the Wilderness. For example Augmented items[runescape.wiki] will turn into coins upon dropping in the Wilderness.

No skull, and the armor was studded leather. He was using a rune crossbow with rune bolts, and the dragonfire shield. None of that appeared. All he dropped was 25k, and there as no death marker on his map.

I think if your playing ironman you'll lose everything if you die.
If not then it dont make sense cos when you die you get given options to rez in specific ways, he might have chosen a certain option..?

Neither of us were in ironman, and I don't know what options he chose on death.

Welcome to your first lesson of "How-To-Runescape"

Lesson 1: Don't go in the Wilderness, ever.

Seriously, don't.

Sounds like you're both f2p and the reason he only dropped 25k coins is because his inventory exceeded the value of which f2pers can trade.

The limit is in place in the wildy to prevent transferring of wealth of 25k+ between players too.

Been playing off and on since 2003, but thanks I guess. The wilderness is nothing like what it used to be.

That's possible, though he only had studded leather, a rune crossbow, and the anti-dragonfire shield. No idea how many bolts he had. Though that still doesn't explain the lack of death marker. Unless things have changed in the last 10 or so years.

This is the most 'MMORPG thing' I have ever heard.
You can check what is saved on death in the Wilderness by opening Worn Equipment and navigating your eyes to the bottom across from the listed weight of your person. You'll see a skull and crossbones icon, click it. It will show you what you stand to lose if you die unskulled and skulled.

The problem is that doing Wilderness Slayer Tasks is the "easiest" way to get Atrocious Rogue gloves[runescape.wiki], the best Hybrid non-degradeable gloves.

I know you can get them through Deathmatch but nobody but select few players play that and I'm not sure if boosting it with a friend/alt account is bannable offence or not.

If your friend was f2p only, was never a member, and he holds more than 25k worth of items, then the items are converted to 25k coins.

So that probably explains the coins, but do players just not get a gravestone anymore?
Why would you get a gravestone in the wilderness?

Players DO still get gravestones IF you choose it when you die then you'll' appear at deaths domain and make your way back to where you die., or you can choose to res at deaths domain with all your stuff if you have enough gold to pay for that option on you at the time of death so you don't lose anything. OH! and there's an option in settings to set what type of gravestone you can have also.

Something tells me your friend didn't read the options that pops up when he died and just selected any old thing and chose wrong. Unless he did choose right, kept his gear and took it off and lied to you so he could get more items off you... LMAO!

you NEVER get a gravestone in the wildy. you also drop all but 1-3 items (think its 1 in the wildy). thats why the wildy is risky, you loose everything there and other people can kill you

suck it up and move on
