Training another skill such as slayer can be a good way of knocking out two birds with one stone. If you are f2p I would check out the cockroaches, or barbarians. Hill giants are also another good source of xp. the drops from cockroaches and hill giants can help bring in some cash for your adamant armor. If you are member then I would recommend slayer or those 3 mobs.

set your combat xp to defence only for a while too if you haven't already

so you set range magic and meele to only give defence xp for a while
swap them around as much as you want

Didn't explain the xp

If you set meele to give xp in all 3 style its gives a % to each then a small % to hp xp
by setting it to def only you get all the xp that would have gone into att and str added to defence xp

You don't lose any xp you just get it all in one skill not 3

It's good to get quest levels fast

Then reset it all 3 if you want for general training

I train def with melee since no ammo required but if you don't mind spending/making ammo ranged and magic could work

ammo and runes are very cheap and you don't need many. This is pretty much negligible for the most parts of the game. It might be good to train defence with magic and ranged, because you only have to train one skill for magic and ranged, but you need to train two skills for melee (strength and attack)

Train combat with slayer until you have 99 slayer.

From my personal experience, if any more experienced players want to suggest better go ahead, but as a F2P player nothing is better than Troll Brutes in Burthorpe mine. They only have 100 HP so its pretty quick to be able to one shot them, they spawn quickly (I've never had a moment where there were none available) and they give 40 xp each. The xp a minute is great. I've gotten up to 40 myself in each combat skill from Troll Brutes alone and I'm not leaving yet. Unless someone provides a better suggestion.

+1 stuff like that is always best, fast kill even if a bit less xp will always be better for training
not just in f2p or low level, it's a good way to train at any level just change the kill to suit

I completely agree with that. And you always make a profit. So after you hit level 60 in the combat skills, you will make a very decent profit and it's obviously important to also pick up those charms for summoning.

bless the charming imp being on the toolbelt
Dungeoneering / Combat Dummys / Hill Giants.

Moss Giants are also a nice option if you can get near any. They've got some decent drops.

The hill giants beneath the dungeon between GE and Barbarian Village require a brass key to access, however, The most common drop players will farm for of them is the Limpwurt roots, A drop that f2p can get but it'll sell for an nice amount after you start racking some up.

Please do note that on f2p worlds, this area may be subject to botting and if you encounter any, do report them please.
