Old Permamute Override/Expiration?
To make a long story short, I was a really dumb kid growing up online lol. I recently got back into playing my RS account after a several year-long hiatus. I had a few strikes on my account from back when I'd do really stupid things in the early 2000s.. but then several years ago I said a naughty word and got my last strike and instant permamute. My accounts been muted ever since. I used up my first (and only) appeal by making excuses for my behavior, and never got another chance since. Now that I'm older, needless to say I've seen the error of my ways. Is there ANY way that I can get this permamute overridden? I've read online that permamutes do in fact expire over some indeterminate amount of time, but its been at least 7-8 years now.

Isn't there someplace on the official forums were you can request an appeal? I remember doing this a few years ago on two banned accounts, one which was perma banned for scamming (being a dumb kid back in 2005 or so) and I have access to that one again, definitely worth a look on the official forums

i just tried searching the forums, but no luck. found a few people trying to appeal, but basically they got shut down by player mods that said "we cant do anything because were not JMods.. try appealing the mute in ur account settings! :)" despite the fact that i literally cant because i used up my appeal 8 years ago. its so ridiculous how their punishment system is set up. i did some stupid things 9 years prior to my permamute, which added up as a sort of non-expiring strike system.. and then i say a naughty word talking ♥♥♥♥ to someone and it becomes a permamute that never ends??? its insane. i will def make a new account once they release old school RS onto steam.

Doubt it. I was permamuted for a single offense a good number of years ago and the actual offense has long since expired, the manual mute to the best of my knowledge will NEVER expire and appeals are pointless no matter how sincere your apology and clear evidence of having changed/learned your lesson. Quick chat is basically worthless, and as far as I can tell, communication in OS is impossible, at least on mobile. Unfortunately my character is quite high level, so I am unwilling to abandon it despite the struggles and loneliness. It’s extra difficult on OS since it started me from scratch. Seems to be full of scammers and bots and I can’t even warn people who are about to fall for them. :(

yeah its pathetic just how adamant this discipline/ban system is. youd think after all these years theyd implement some sort of amnesty/clean slate sort of deal. im in the same boat as you, ive had this account since 2002/03. not about to quit playing on it, even if i cant talk to people.

I’ve been playing a bit longer than that even, although this is not my original account. Gave my original to a former friend years and years back. This one was a backup I made a couple years after my original. Sadly missed out on the original Halloween scythe. :(
That’s the only thing I really miss from my old account, I’ve surpassed it in basically everything else, aside from a couple grandmaster quests I haven’t felt like doing again, lol.

Really wish they’d give me one more chance, but they won’t. I think I have an appeal remaining, but I was shutdown so hard after the first extremely sincere and lengthy apology letter I wrote in the first appeal that there wouldn’t be any point in using it. Honestly didn’t even seem like they read it. 🥺

yeah i hear ya.. holding out hope a mod will see posts like these on the steam forums and maybe make a move on it now after all these years... especially since new users will be coming in from steam. amnesty would be the greatest gift ever lol. i love runescape and id love to be given a second chance.

Anything permanent will last forever unless Jagex quashes it manually (nullifies the ban/mute). Normally the circumstances for this are pretty specific for bans it'll most likely never happen unless you had one by mistake (very very rare) or if many years have passed and Jagex deems you worthy to play again (rare chance).

Mutes from many years ago I think are easier to quash though due to the nature of being unable to appeal permanent anything you'll have to go somewhere like Twitter and ask the Jagex support.

"Many permanent mutes have been reported to expire after a period of one year. A mute can also get quashed by a Jagex Moderator."

suppose it depends on what was said, how many reported you, if it was real world trading related etc and do they even have a full record of it now after so many years

yea mine was just a mute fortunately, but forever for one offence is really unreasonable, but as I said, they as far as i can tell didn't even read my heartfelt apology... :(

my first account circa 2007 got hacked while i wasnt playing the game, and the guy emptied my account including party hats which were worthless back in the day when i had them, botted on my account and got it banned, which i found out when i tried to log in years later. there response "sucks make a new account" so good luck with that.

it all comes down to account security somthing you did compromised your account anything from going to a insecure website to telling your brother/friend your password so they could play to some people did that back in the day said people could leak your info or bot and in the end your account security is on you even if you didnt bot or say somthing or anything of the sort it is in the long run your responsibility to not release your info and make sure your account is safe jagex deals with it in the way they do for a reason
