the treasure hunter keys are basically just runescapes loot box and thus its all up to chance what you get

F2P is officially considered the "demo" experience for the game. There's a lot of content there, but its not the majorly supported content. Consider any items you get a savings fund for if you do work your way up to members.

To lure you in to getting a membership.

My only issue with it in general is that some of the items isnt bankable, so you either have to get a membership now, waste inventory space or ditch the item. but that's only few select items though.

Yeah I noticed treasure hunter keys were members only and honestly happy I used a few before realizing It was pointless

If you make a new thread every time you get mem's items you'll be making a lot more threads
Just put them with diango/cash them in for oddments or throw them away
Most people don't stop in f2p that long anyway so it's not a problem

Today's "free item"? Can you specify are you talking about Treasure Hunter or the Solomons Store? I assume it's Treasure Hunter and if that's the case it has always been like this ever since MTX was introduced in 2012.

Not every prize in Treasure Hunter is mems only and it will tell you if a prize is or isn't, giving you the chance to convert it into Oddments that you can use in f2p.
Just pay attention. I didn't and ended up with a bunch of items that I couldn't use, but luckily for me, I took to Reddit and a very kind veteran player gifted me a Bond for 14 days membership.
I wasn't ready for mems but it enabled me to free up my inventory space since I could finally use the mems items and I'm discovering that yes, this game is freaking HUGE. I highly recommend membership if you want to experience everything.

Then you're missing out on most of the game. Sorry, but that's how it is. If you want to be strictly f2p then you've got a long road ahead of you to save up for a bond. I think they're going for around 27-30 million gold right now. They'll probably go up soon once all of the newbies start making bank and buying bonds. So it's either dump a ton of time into the game, skilling all the f2p skills to 99 and then grind gold for a few weeks for a bond or skill and then buy a mems for 10.99 for 30 days and make gold grinding easier so you can keep buying bonds once your 30 days mems is up.
