A warning on the current state of Runescape 3
Hello, I've been playing Runescape and Runescape 3 since 2005, and I just want to give a quick heads up on the issues plaguing RS3. To avoid wasting the reader's time, I won't be too wordy.

1) Updates are scarce. There was a time Runescape received three or four monthly updates, many of them large and game-changing. Those days are long gone. For the past six years, we've been lucky if we got three genuine content updates a year.

2) We get ten times as many (not an exaggeration) MTX updates as content updates. Literally two or three times a week, there's yet another MTX promotion. I recommend playing ironman mode to avoid dealing with them.

3) The servers are dead. With less than 100 people on most servers, you never get the sensation that you're playing a thriving game. Jagex pissed off most of their playerbase with MTX and lacking, empty updates.

4) PVP is completely dead. It's not a big deal for me as I don't care much for PVP, but it's worth noting.

5) The developers hide a lack of updates by disguising grindy and repetitive events rewarding cosmetics as updates. If clicking the same box for hours until you unlock your millionth cosmetic is your thing, you'll enjoy.

6) The atmosphere of a gritty medieval existence is long gone. These days everyone is dressed in rainbow clown gear or something similarly flashy and unfitting. Other's flashy large cosmetic pets often get in the way of you trying to click on something, and there is no option to hide them.

Oh my god if you enjoyed quests then yes 100x over. Not only have they added roughly 100+ quests to the game since you probably last played. They've finished most of the long running major storylines and the main story has advanced in so many ways. We've been through at minimum 4 major world threatening villains, we've brought gods back to the world, etc....

The quests and lore are just so good and now we have archeology which is a lore base skilled, which is to say it's basically like a quest just really long fleshed out quest. Each dig site having its own characters, narrative, mysteries, and puzzles. There has also just been a bigger push to include quest elements like narratives, lore books, etc.. in other updates than just raw quests.

No matter what changes RS3 has brought the one place it has always shone is its lore and quests. The old ones that haven't been reworked are still rough but pretty much everything 2010 onward ranges from okay to truly fantastic. If you want a few good quests to experience right off the bat that have no stat requirements....

- Broken Home which is a classic survival horror genre quest.
- One Piercing Note which is a somber mystery quest that introduces voice acted quests.
- The Needle Skips which is a really cool mystery quest that follows in the vein of One Piercing Note.

Those 3 are entirely self contained narratives, The Needle Skips does tie into a much later part of the main story but by itself The Needle Skips is self contained so you won't be missing anything if you jump straight in.

One thing to warn you about is if a quest has a list of "suggested" quests to do before you do it, you shouldn't probably listen. A big event happened in the game that moved us from 5th age to 6th put them in a rock in a hard place. In order to not lock every new update since that event behind like 90% of the game's hundreds of quests they had to be lax on quest requirements. So you can do some 6th age quests before you do 5th age quests which can lead to a confusing narrative. That's what the "suggested" quest order is for, it's telling you the quests whose stories you need to experience to properly understand the quest you're playing.
