osrs is dependant on rewards, can't say I see people playing things like castlewars for instance
both have healthy amounts of PvM and that just boils down to what game you enjoy out of the two
In RS3, its either a small crowd on the dedicated world, has a friends chat that does it, or is spotlighted. Few exceptions.
The OSRS crowd really only does things that give decent rewards.
As for PvM, its entirely about which system you enjoy more.
RS3 is actually much more forgiving with it, giving you tons of abilities to access, more ways to negate damage, and very clear-cut boss phases or attacks. The only downside is how absurd death payments can get.
OSRS is almost exclusively based around micromanaging the system that hasn't changed in 20 years. You have to stand on an EXACT tile on the ground, or die. You NEED to prayer flick properly, or die. You HAVE to perfectly dodge this single mechanic or instantly die. A lot of people like the intensity of that style, but its extremely punishing while learning, and some bosses were exclusively designed with the top 10% of players in mind, with no regard for the lower percentage.
