Use an O.G account, or start fresh?
Wanted to give RS3 a shot, I had quit RuneScape altogether about a year before EOC originally came out (so this would be ~2011, with EOC coming out in ~2012 iirc) -- when OSRS was released I decided to get back into it, but I didn't know that you could use your same original RS account at the time, so I made a new one.

Now I have two accounts, first is my original with 1343 total level on RS3 with a blank OSRS side, and the second has a 1621 total level on OSRS with a blank RS3 side, if that makes any sense.

With this new client, it seems that you link your Steam account to just one RS account, and although there is a process to un-link / re-link a new account, it's enough of a hassle for me to only want to stick to one account at this point.

Obviously we're not sure how the OSRS side of things will be set up since that's coming next year, but is there any merit in trying to play RS3 on my old account, which was a good account to be fair (at least I'd like to think so ;P) but like to 2011 standards (Barrows, whip, dlegs+boots -- essentially I only have things that are still good in OSRS today, but also I don't have any money on there lol). Or, since I want to be sticking with my OSRS account anyways, should I just use that account and have a fresh start on RS3?

To be honest, I feel like I've answered my own question after typing this all out lmao, but if theres anyone reading this who actively plays RS3 but who also played way back then, or is active on OSRS as well, would love some input.

If you quit before EoC I think you should start fresh that will just make it a LOT easier to get oriented. I was in the same exact position as you I tried to start over on my old account but I was so lost and I didn't have the earlier content to help direct and guide me to the changes. It was miserable feeling so I started over and it became wildly more manageable and I've ended up having a lot more fun rediscovering everything. The game had changed so much it was just such a fresh experience.

probably not in the same boat as you, but I think I'm just going to start fresh... it's not going to be the same game it was in the 90s...

Either works. You could try starting new just to get a full picture and with current xp rates getting to a similar level shouldn't take overly long, at least in RuneScape terms.

That's what I was thinking too, maybe I'll just use my current OSRS account primarily now so I can keep everything in sync and start fresh, and keep my OG as a relic of the past -- was nuts to log-in and have Hans say I arrived ~4500 days ago (12.5years!). Thanks for your input btw! Glad to hear that RS3 is fulfilling to play despite it having changed so much.

IMO start fresh but keep the old account on lock so you can flaunt your 10 year cape

Personally the biggest genuine issue with RS3 is that it was an update to the original game and not just a separate game entirely. Starting from scratch lets you ease yourself into it better. Dropping in a completely different game with an account that's already made a lot of progress makes figuring out what you want to do extremely difficult.

Not completely un-doable mind you, but it took me a lot of wondering around being sad what the game turned into before I started to appreciate it as its own thing. I got into it quite a bit for a while but now that I've played OSRS for a year again going back to this is once again confusing.
