OSRS vs RS3
Can someone help me decide which is more worth playing? I played OSRS when it first came out for a while then stopped playing for 10 years or so. Pro's/Con's would help, or general input of what the difference is.

RS3 is much more of a modern experience. Lots of user-friendly features that OSRS hasn't adopted, several skills that OSRS doesn't have (Summoning, Dungeoneering, Divination, Invention, and Archaeology), it looks MUCH nicer (seriously, OSRS looks like a bad 3DO game), and many other things -- but it's also picked up some bad habits from them, too, like microtransactions (including paid lootboxes) and the "Evolution of Combat" system which is basically copied wholesale from 95% of all MMOs.

OSRS is pretty much the game you remember, warts and all. RS3 is that game viewed through a modern lens.

Is it worth playing RS3 if i'm not going to pay for things?

I am a very experienced OSRS player and i say that it is totally different to RS3 ....
- 4XP per HIT 1
- No XP bonus
- No skills like WOW (World of Warcraft)
- Hand-to-hand combat is similar to "basic simulation" with little "ninja etc" trick skills.
I love the graphics of RS3 but the gameplay doesn't like it, i love OSRS gameplay but you can try old school and "new" RS3
Welcome to runescape world

And u can get member "free" u can buy membership with money in game, name item like "bond"

The combat is INFINITELY better compared to OSRS

I'd say so. The free part of the game has dozens, if not hundreds of hours worth of stuff to do, and like Pralenka says, you can buy "bonds" from other players with in-game money (if you can afford them -- easier said than done, but definitely doable) that you can spend to access the paid game or microtransactions without spending a cent of your real-life money.

If nothing else, it's worth a try,

If you want to play solo or pvp i suggest OSRS. If you want the feel of a modern-ish mmorpg and want to do co-op stuff runescape 3.

both games are free, so why not try them both and see for yourself? it doesnt matter what people tell you, in the end its your personal experience that matters.

here's one thing you should absolutly know - OSRS is one of the most toxic and hostile communites on the internet, so be prepared for metting unfriendly players and scammers when you play OSRS (they exist in rs3 too but are way less common as far as i konw)

I came back a month ago after a 13 year break. I tried OSRS, and it was quite nostalgic. I've played RS3 for about a month now, it's really good. RS3 has better graphics, combat, and more things to do. Don't get me wrong, osrs still has its charm, but I personally prefer RS3.

Could do without the key/lamp micro-transaction thing, though.

OSRS imo. Only thing that interests me in RS3 is the story, but other than that its pretty ♥♥♥♥ and I don't like it at all. Well, might be because I started in 2006 and quit when eoc came in 2012 and started again when osrs came back 2013. I am pretty sure that players who never played the old school version, or played it a bit, but not that much are going to enjoy RS3 more. OSRS player base is probably like 3-4 times bigger than RS3, but you should test both and see which one you like.

Antique retro game, but wouldn't have any meaning to you as a new player anyway
It's just for old people who didn't like the changes made to make the game rs3
Over 50 and retro lol? I'm 25 and OSRS is not retro in the slightest

I think a big tell about OSRS vs RS3 is that OSRS is 3 times more popular than RS3 and it cant be from just from older players. When you older version is more preferred over your current one then you know something is wrong

OSRS is the game most RS players prefer, and I think the one vets enjoy more. RS3 is essentially a completely different game at this point, so comes down to really just if you enjoy what it has become or not honestly.

"only" the story? lol the story in Runescape is friggin HUUUGE its one of the main reasons i fell in love with the game.
beating rigicide and finding out the twist in the end made me litreally drop my jaw, the first time i heard of this strange ancient god Zaros was really captivating.
or the huge discovery about the Red Axe in the dwarf quest series.

and RS3 just built more and more over this fantastic story. i'd say "only the story" is a good enough reason to be invested in RS3

RS3 is the choice.
Feels like old Runescape but with the benefits of OSRS.
