I mean it's an MMO so "sorta" would be the answer? You can't do quests together directly and there are certain bosses that can only be done solo but otherwise you could technically play the game together it just 9/10 times wouldn't "truly" be playing together. Like mining when you mine a rock you get your stamina and progress bar, no one else can help you with that rock they will be getting their own ore from the rock. You could however both mine the same rock so you could sit and talk to one another.

The whole game is an MMO, you can meet up with friends and play together but other players will be around you (it's an pen world). There are no "private instances" of the game (unless it's bossing and some other stuff) if that's what you're asking.

It's a MMORPG. The servers are big so yes and no. You can group and do the same kind of activities and all that.

However, there is a lot of content that can be played in co-op. There's a skill called Dungeoneering[runescape.wiki] that is designed around co-op play. You can play it alone or party with up to 3 of your friends. There also are bosses that you can defeat as a group.

You are not tied down to one world like in most MMO's so as long as you and a friend log into the same world, you can do virtually everything together. Even if you don't log into the same world, you can go to your in-game friends list, right click your friend and click join. It will take you to their world. Repeating this while in their world will teleport you to the closest lodestone you have unlocked. Tho most quests are single-player.

If you are wanting to play with friends DO NOT! make an Ironman account. Ironman accounts while observable to other players and vice verse, for the most part cannot participate in co-op, trade, and most minigames.

I'm purely new to this world. I heard about it long ago but it got shut down. Now I want to play with friends. Is there anything else you want to warm me about.

I'm purely new to this world. I heard about it long ago but it got shut down. Now I want to play with friends. Is there anything else you want to warm me about.

Don't go to the wilderness that place is a death zone when it comes to players killing other players and making you lose all your items.

A player vs player zone with (almost) full loot on death, so if you die to another player there everything on you is dropped for them

Also if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Don't fall for any scams or players that "give" you free stuff.
