Probably a psychological issue.
Same with WoW, I played both, raided in classic and retail, who really cares what people enjoy? Both games have merit, and both games have a big fanbase who's willing to play it.
Nothing about P2W is appealing in an MMO, nor is ironman meant for new or casual players.
OSRS exists because new RS wasn't good enough. Just knowing you're not forced to play RS3 and can go back to OSRS makes RS3 more tolerable for most people. In other words, OSRS is far more relevant.
1. the minigames like soul wars, castlewars or fists of guthix that no one plays anymore it seems. used to play these so much. But i saw there are events planned for that kind of thing? so i might check that out when I'm a bit higher lvl again (i started over).
and
2. i used to fight in those pvp minigames as ranged tank. using crossbow/shield and a mix of meelee and ranged equipment and it seems that not as good anymore as it was back then, not sure if it works at all now with the new equipment.
Im still pretty new to this but as far as i can tell the Rs3 is great for skilling but for pvp i think it became a bit mehh. that is just my personal opinion though based on the little experience i have so far with Rs3.
Also, to the OSRS purists saying MTX are a problem, yall need to stop pretending like you dont buy bonds and ♥♥♥♥ to sell to the GE for quick profit to power level skills. I know you do, nearly everyone at a high level does every once in a while, stop pretending.
"But you'll be playing a game whose primary goal is to collect experience/levels and such, all of which pretty much you can buy with real money."
Period. Nobody should ever play this game. Ever. I never regret wasting years of my life on a game as much as I did on this one before, by all means. Do NOT play it. Trust me.
EDIT: OSRS exists literally to keep around people who are sick of MTX on RS3. But not everybody wants to play an old version of the game and start from scratch you see. (Yet, ironically, OSRS still has more players than RS3, even if you don't count the bots. RS3 is Altscape, full of elitists with rares from 2001-4 who can't let go of the game because they spent way too much money/time on it and have items worth "a lot", that's about it. If you deny this, you're lying to yourself, and you know it.)
