I don't know much about GW2 besides just watching my friend stream it. Runescape also has lots of PvM content to offer such as solo bosses, group bosses, raids, and elite dungeons. I'd say though that GW2 has bigger bossing groups compared to RS, since RS is more focused on either solo or small group bossing.

My friend who's a veteran player in GW2 just started playing RS3 a few weeks ago and he's really liking it and been playing it nonstop so I'd say give it a shot! Of course it will always come down to personal preference but there's no harm in giving it a try. :)

GW2 and then FFXIV sort of broke RS for me. Had 12k hours on RS, went and played those and came back and realized RS looked and played like crap and ended up quitting RS permanently around 8 years ago. It is worth trying, I did partly quit because of how addicted I had become.. did all those hours in around 5 years.

I stopped playing GW2 a little after PoF came out; I mainly just lost interest in it. I wasn't really sure what to work towards or do after a certain point (I had Ascended gear).

Finding things to work towards in Runescape isn't a problem at all though. I can do short goals, long-term goals, or random stuff that happens to work toward some unrelated goal. Basically, anything I do works towards something.

In GW2, after I reached level 80 and got Ascended gear, I didn't really have anything else I wanted to do. There's Legendary items I could craft, but they weren't much better than Ascended gear, and even then, I could still play pretty decently with Ascended gear and not worry about it.

I think Runescape would be great to play if you like setting goals, and if you do, I think it offers a better experience than GW2.

I play Runescape and Guild Wars 2 pretty regularly - as of late, I've been spending most of my time playing Runescape than the other, so here's my opinion on the matter:

If you like Guild Wars 2, you *MIGHT* enjoy Runescape as well. They might look very similar on the surface but my personal opinion is that they are two entirely different beasts that work in very different ways. That's not to say they don't share any similarities - take the ability-based combat, for example. Similar to Guild Wars, though you have access to a far greater number of abilities that you're able to (and in some cases, expected) to use. In Runescape, you can have several Ability Bars loaded up with offensive and defensive abilities, spells from your Magic book, as well as food and gear. Combat suffers, however, from the tick-system that the entire game's architecture is built around. Each tick is 0.6 seconds, and any inputs made won't manifest until the next tick. Sometimes it leads to frustrating scenarios where, were it not for the tick system, that attack that just killed you would NOT have.

You have access to a wide range of customization options, as well. Your UI can be arranged entirely to your liking, and the game's been improved with a huge number of Quality-of-Life updates over the years, from simple things like automatically destroying empty vials when you finish drinking a potion to the Revolution combat system, which automatically casts abilities in the order they're placed on your primary Ability Bar, allowing for a more relaxed combat experience. There's very little in the way of basic character customization - in Runescape, you can only play a human, but you're able to unlock a MASSIVE array of cosmetic items you can freely apply as overrides to your equipment. Some overrides are unlocked through gameplay, others available as microtransactions through Solomon's General Store.

Speaking of MTX, it's a large point of contention within the playerbase. There is a daily activity called Treasure Hunter, it's basically a loot box system where you can earn things like XP rewards, coins, and other convenience items to help you on your adventures. With Membership, you get two free keys each day, and have the option of buying more. Occasionally you also get free Keys while playing, and you also earn a currency called Oddments while opening Treasure Hunter chests, which can be spent on things like more Treasure Hunter Keys and bonus XP items. The system is pretty heavily promoted, and is clearly designed to exploit whales - promotions cycle in and out on a pretty regular basis, each giving a different spin on how you want to open your loot boxes such as being able to choose from two different pools of rewards, or create your own pool of rewards to get items from at random.

Personally, I don't have much of an issue with the MTX system as it's currently implemented. I mostly ignore it, though I'll occasionally (As in, once every six months) purchase some keys with real world money to see if I can't get anything cool from the current promotion.

Runescape is also one of the few remaining subscription-based MMO's on the market. It costs about $10 USD a month to play depending on the membership package you purchase, and during the later part of the year you can also purchase Premier Club Membership, which is a package with up to an entire year of free membership, as well as a number of other bonuses, at a larger up-front cost, but worth investing in if you plan on playing for a very long time. Bonds are also purchasable with real-world currency, and can be traded with other players for in-game cash, or redeemed for free Membership, currency to spend in Solomon's General Store for cosmetic items, or other exclusive bonuses.

Last, and definitely least, Runescape is not a game you should invest your time in to if you're looking for a PvP experience. The Wilderness, the game's dedicated PvP zone, is practically abandoned, and outside of specific activities that take place there, it's unlikely you'll ever cross paths with another player, though when you do, they'll often leave you alone or try to murder you for everything you're carrying. If you want to play Runescape and fight other players, play Old School Runescape instead. Simple as that.

While they are very different games I play both games and enjoy both. Dargon had an excellent response otherwise.

well whats the pve content there too
Dargon Sep 26, 2020 @ 11:32am
The PvE content available is abundant to overflowing. Depending on how intense of a fight you want to go for, you can take part in relaxed sessions where you sit back and let Revolution do the work, occasionally tuning in to collect dropped items, or you can take part in high-intensity boss encounters, some built for solo players, some for large groups of players, with complexity ranging from "This monster simply uses basic attacks" to "These monsters attack in groups and are only vulnerable to Ranged attacks" to "This monster is a multi-phase boss fight that becomes more powerful the more you kill it." There's something to do at every stage of the game, some newer, more-powerful bad guy to fight, all with their own unique loot pools and valuable rare drops to collect.

Always the next upgrade. Always something to save up for. Always something new to learn, so on and so forth. It's definitely the game's biggest strength, as there's a massive variety of things to do depending on your confidence, skill level, and whatever gear happens to be available to you.

So, if you want to fight alongside friends, you can. If you want to fight by yourself, you can. If you want a nice, relaxed session with nothing scary, or an edge-of-your-seat test of mastery, Runescape's PvM scene unironically has something for everyone.

if i were you I would choose GW2 from these, the combat in gw2 is fully customizable, if you actually want hard class weaver elementalist will provide all the button smashing you need...
And there is some easy things to do too... (normal world content is sometimes just pressing one button (!) depending on what class you use you will find your way

I liked some of the mounts... they were something that this game can never get.... sadly it was badly monetized, so you wont get anything good looking without serius grinding, or fat wallet
(GW2 is notorious for not giving anything valuable as drop, [the rate of actually good stuff is terrible] but lore is still pretty nice. (and you wont pay monthly for content only expansion are required to be paid with real $€

I played this game (RS) long time ago, it was marketed as not having buyable progress (membership was only thing that had some value, and world was little bit more balanced with that in mind) tried after that, the new skill system is just... unconvenient to use and setup GW2 has everything just there... no customization but it's clearer.

But remember this thing if you are interested in GW2, if you play the game, you are going to choose steam client or their own... that might sound easy thing to decide, but your all content is locked to that version, you can't migrate your things between those (my reason I probably never use steam client)

For both of the games, they have their ups and downs, But I still prefer GW2 for that, (I don't play that too much either... time is a valuable thing to have and both games have very bad money=enjoyable content rate and with that montly sub/nice looking mount skin I can get far more content from indie games that somehow grant me whole new aspects (and not a limited access to content or one mountskin in price of a indie game)

But whatever route you take remember luck is a roll of a loot dice in the end:dcrandom:
enjoy your rolls in both games/whatever you choose
