How do you delete an account or character?
For some reason, I apparently made an account with my email, and downloaded the game. Some time later, I went to play the game and the only option was to log on with Steam, which I did. Now I have one account registered to my email (which is of course unchangeable) and another linked to Steam. I can't unlink the second one from Steam, because I can't link it to my email. It has a character that is just past the tutorial zone, that has the name I want to use, and I would be ok deleting that character and account and just starting again with the account that is linked to my email, and linking that one to Steam.

However, I can't figure out how to delete the steam linked account or character.
This is some basic level account management stuff, and of course their customer support is terrible. If just this very basic level of functionality can't be solved, then I'm not interested in playing the game, much less buying a membership.

That being said, does anyone know how to delete an account?

Do that, and your account will be obliterated within a day or two. This was the case all last year (I've done it multiple times)

Permanently disable != delete. You won't be able to use that email either way.

First part says "Remove your personal data", and if you request that, the data is removed. You can immediately (once support confirms the deletion) re-use the same email and username even.

From this thread (Is there a way to delete my account permanently?)

No, Jagex do not delete accounts.
You can file a request here: Your personal data rights.
One of the options is to permanently disable your account.

"Disable" isn't "Delete", because it's obvious that people would abuse it fairly often and for malicious purposes.

That thread is over a year old.

I don't know what Jagex does nowadays, but I personally deleted 6 or so accounts throughout last year all through that link, all with generally the same process, and re-used the exact same display name and email address for both games each time I re-created the account.

Don't have to take my word for it though; for anyone actually wanting their account deleted, request it from that link, and report what happens.

Well, at least for me, it's hard to believe that they do delete accounts, because... imagine getting access to someones account and requesting to delete it......
It's not deleting for say, it's archiving. Think of it as a record of existence, which it can be consulted for history purposes. Used for studies, statistics, law... anything that needs a trace to make sense. In the medieval sense... A Ledger.
