How to Fix Game Not Starting After Pressing on "Play"

Hope you are all doing good.

I just installed OSRS on Steam and had the issue that when I press "Play" and nothing happens, the game doesn't launch.

The solution to this is to find both the "vcomp140.dll" and "vcomp140_app.dll" on your computer (search your Local Disk or the whole PC for the files) and then copy paste both files in the game's directory (for Steam, e.g. C:\\Steam\steamapps\common\Old School RuneScape\bin\win64).

After doing that, the game will launch properly and work as intended.
Reinstalls and integrity checks do not help resolve this.

Reviewed numerous threads and was astonished nobody knew the solution! After attempting to launch the game from the directory it at least gave me an error of said missing DLL file, once I attempted to copy paste the files, everything worked fine as it seems those files need to be in the game directory as well, why they didn't get installed or repaired, I can't say.
This was done on Windows 11.

I am having the same issue except i am not trying to play it via steam but rather the jagex launcher. Any advice?

Well, I don't think it matters if you are via Steam or the Jagex launcher. As you can still access the directory of the game and copy paste the missing files (if its the same issue and error).

I can't confirm this, as I do not use the Jagex launcher, apologies! Although, I believe that this isn't launcher-specific and you should be able to perform the same actions.

Give it a try and see if it helps fix the issue!

interesting to hear a specific solution... generally they'd just tell you to delete the whole base directory which would cause those sort of file to auto-update.
