OSRS won't launch via steam, works fine with non-steam launcher
Hey, my computer is a FX-9370 with GTX 970 graphics card and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling a number of times.

When I click play it doesn't launch anything and after a few seconds the stop button switches back to play with nothing opening.

The game works fine using the official OSRS client from the runescape site but I'd prefer to use the steam client so I don't have to enter in my password and can track hours.

Does anyone know what the issue is and what could fix this for me?

Thanks.

If you are not too paranoid on security, you can use Runelite, which is the no. 1 fan-liked client and also it's on Jagex permission list. Look for a link to there in the Jagex official site, or maybe get Jagex Launcher, it is also listed there.

potentially the program is still running in the background and so when you try to open it again it detects the process is running and closes.

check task manager for osclient.exe and end the process if it's active then try again.

Same problem here. Found this online but didn't work for me:

As a short-term fix, can you try going to C:/ProgramData/Jagex/ and deleting "preferences.dat" and "preferences2.dat"? Hopefully this will help!

If this helps at all, I run a 3 monitor set up. I unplugged two of the monitors then launched OSRS then plugged my monitors back in and it worked fine.
