What happened to my account?

So I had/have an account from way back, as far back as 2008 maybe more? I know this because I can see the infractions I acquired back then. Managed to log in to it, link it up with steam and it's not even close to how I remember it.
It's back to level 3 like it's been reset. I'm just standing inside Lumbridge with a very default looking character.

I know I had a fair number of skills at level 50, I had only 1 member skill upgraded (agility) since I only ever had a membership once. Completed most if not all the f2p quests at the time. Had a few event emotes and such. I know its the very same account because it still has a friend from way back them.

Is there a way to return to this or am I stuck? I can't remember when I stopped playing. The last time I might of played it is sometime in 2012.

OSRS is not Runescape. The account you had probably migrated to Runescape 3. OSRS is a copy of Runescape prior to EOC and the graphical overhaul, so all accounts from the past migrated to RS3. With that being said, your progress is null in OSRS as all accounts were, essentially, reset.

Likely what's happened is that your character is still fully intact on Runescape 3.

OSRS was a completely separate version of the game and the game build they recovered from was from like 2007.

No character data was ever recovered or brought down from RS3 so you're likely going to have to start completely fresh on OSRS.

Old School is seperate game to RuneScape 3 (which is the main game we all originally played), everyone had to start from scratch. Your progress will still exist in RS3.

Everyone in OSRS starts on a fresh account - all the progress you made on your character has been saved but is in Runescape 3 now (the new Runescape). It might suck but with how far internet resources have come since 2008 it doesn't take anywhere near as long to get back up to where you were luckily.

Any actual old account means it's a RS3 account not a OSRS account, since this is the "latest version" it would unfortunately mean that your account is in essence reset, but literally everyone who plays OSRS had their account "reset" since it's essentially a new game, sorry for rambling..
