What sort of strawman is that?
I’m asking for peoples opinion about a game.
No one here is forced at gunpoint to answer or post.
regardless this has nothing to do with me not wanting people to know what i played 5 minutes ago at a click of a button.
Very interesting.
I specifically said that i game quite often myself ( maybe not as much these days cause the older we get the busier we are ). I just fully acknowledge that it’s technically a “waste of time”, but it’s okay. We’re here for such a short time and having fun and silly hobbies is important.
my point although granted hypocritical, is that to me it feels like OSRS is even a “bigger waste of time” for rather obvious reasons.
if something gets your soul high and does you good, then do that over what's expected to be a /not a waste of time/.
This game's got charm, the graphics are great imo, the world too. Though i don't play it as much lately, when you don't have much free time, it actually feels like a waste to spend that little time hitting a tree, unless you just wanna fill your hunger for osrs (if you have it). Otherwise my point is, when i got little time id rather play something that yields a different result, another game, online or not, because if you spend 4 hours woodcutting the result is the same every time.
I completely agree.
But as you mentioned on the second paragraph, I’m sure you can find something more enjoyable than cutting a tree for 4 hours or more exciting than to watching automated animations play out after you click a pixelated giant.
My overall question is not “why do you play games” but “why do you play this game”.
Although my criticism this is all obviously subjective and i never attempted to offend anyone.
I spent like 1000 hours in gta san andreas trying to speedrun los santos.
OSRS for me is a "2nd monitor filler" I passivly play it just to fill up time. I also had a phase where I grinded woodcutting and mining on like 15 accounts at the same time.
My very first time playing
The first dozend hours in Runescape I was extremly clueless and I kept quitting the game and came back out of boredom. I probably never played more than 2 hours at a time. I only start getting invested when I got osrs videos recommended on yotube showing me, that this game actually does have more to offer than I always thought.
I think a lot of what the game is for me is the fact that it's something I can play with little concentration on the side, or it can be fast paced and super fun. The game in general has a lot of variety and can tailor to a vast array of playstyles whether that be questing, skilling or PVM.
I can see how the graphics of the game can be a turn off since there are way more traditionally appealing games. You find that with time the graphics start to grow on you. The simplistic polygon design which somehow Jagex seem to make really beautiful and diverse is super impressive.
As someone who never played this game as a child and instead joined recently. I have noticed how little new players join. This is quite sad and I do feel it's mainly due to the steep learning curve and the untraditional graphic design.
Since my friends are in the same boat as most new players, being that they don't like the graphics, I found I spent most of my time solo until recently. Joining the large amount of Clan Chats and discord dedicated to different elements of the game adds a whole new exciting social aspect to the game. Meaning you can do stuff like community events .
I will say as a recommendation to new players, try out RuneLite.net, it's a 3rd party client that adds a bunch of QoL features and can make the game a lot more beginner friendly. It can also make the graphics look nicer in some people's opinion with the use of the GPU plugin.
Fundamentally, this game has to be one of the most fun games I've ever played, never running out of goals, a plethera of different things to do (including minigames). I just feel if you persevere through your initial doubts regarding the game you will find yourself really enjoying it.
Also pvp is no joke, If you're ♥♥♥♥ at it the pros know instantly. Switching gear on the fly is hard as hell.
Sure it takes practice to pull off, but in the end it’s just clicking between different passive buffs and changing gear mid fight.
Which was great 16 years ago, but when literally any mmorpg that exists is more deep than that in some way, there isn’t much of a sell here.
Lol, the majority of popular modern MMOs are tab target garbage, which is hardly better than runescape, because you still just press buttons for skills. The skill animations just give the illusion that it's an action combat system to the average player.
Simple combat isn't always bad, look at Heroes of Might and Magic 3, a widely beloved and challenging game, but the actual combat gameplay is simple as ♥♥♥♥, the variety in variables make it interesting however. It's the same in Runescape where your gear and the monsters defense is what decides on how you will approach an encounter.
GW2 has a good action like combat.
And it’s not just about mmorpgs. Runescapes majority of content is solo oriented. You’re practically playing a singleplayer game with real players being around you and trading exists.
Why not rs3 then?
