The trick to cheesing the first boss.
So I've noticed the first boss is a huge point of discussion considering the difficulty spike he introduces to the game.

I realized that the timing on my parries seemed almost random when I went from parrying him every time to suddenly having all my timing off. In frustration, I did what you never do when fighting a soulslike boss. I spammed the parry button. And it parried all of his attacks without any timing necessary.

I have the fully upgraded parry window and was level 12. The only thing I couldn't spam parry was his card throws, though they were considerably easier to actually get the timing down on. His super attack and critical attack still hit me often, but I have 4 potions and was able to aggressively keep on him by occasionally stopping to just spam the parry button whenever he started to do his attack animations.

So yeah. Fully upgrade the parry window and then spam to your hearts content. He's still not entirely a pushover, but it makes the fight leagues easier.

What i don´t understand, and it shows how much the devs care for their game (very little to nothing), that this boss hasn´t been nerfed, or exchanged with a different one.
I will try your trick for sure, if i ever find the motivation to start up this game.

There isn’t a need for a nerf since me and others have beaten him. Main issue is that there isn’t an enemy in the level that teaches the player how to handle multi-hit attacks outside of maybe the spear enemies.

I quit and refunded the game because of this boss and on here I was basically told that I lack any skill and should go play easy games. I really liked the look of this game and enjoyed the first few minutes but I felt like no matter what I did I just could not get the timing down.

So instead I tried Elden Ring again, a game I struggled with at first but I managed to complete that to 100% multiple times and I realised that it wasn't me, it was this boss and I have seen countless people complain about the same thing.

I honestly don't understand why they left this in the game as it is, as it seems to be the reason a lot of people quit and refunded. Sure people can and do beat it but it is a terrible into to a game if they want to sell it to people

Wrong, Elden ring like most souls titles excluding one gives the player several different options, builds, even coop to beat bosses. This game doesn’t have many builds if you want to call it that the one character and no coop. So if you can’t get behind the gameplay style of this game then yeah it’ll seem hard. Thing is this game is the same like sekiro which I doubt you tried or finished.

Well, I was thinking about uninstalling after 2 hours because of this boss but maybe I'll try again next week and change some upgrades. I got him to around 25% on his second phase but 5 potions didn't seem like enough for me to kill him. I can parry most of his attacks and have learned to mash claws to shred his HP afterwards... but he has a few undodgable attacks in phase2 that I don't understand how to avoid. Very frustrating first boss.

EDIT: Finally beat the dude. Reckless Deflect 2 and mashing the parry button does help because it's not very responsive otherwise. Long dash may have helped a little too.

I beat it with the regular deflection, that's the thing about this game you have some ways to change up your playstyle.

Glad you stuck to it, bud!
That is personally always the magic I have gotten from Souls-like titles, as that moment of victory is such a nice feeling! Especially when the boss itself is a spectacle in of itself. Like most of the human bosses in Bloodborne, or the Souls of Cinder, Sister Friede and Slave Knight Gael in Dark Souls 3. Each one can be a powerhouse, and each one can turn into such a satisfactory experience once you get their patterns down!

I had a LOT of trouble with Sister Friede. Honestly, most DLC bosses in all of the Souls games were pretty tough compared to the base game bosses.

I'm currently on the last boss in this game. I had very little trouble with the other bosses with the exception of God of Fools. Annoying to have to run to the end and die at the final bridge a dozen times. The Hanged Queen was also a little annoying and I still don't know if I beat her correctly. Only a couple attempts in on the final boss, but I think he's gonna make me rage.
EDIT: Beat the final boss in 3 more tries. Just had to replace my Plague Weapon since I was using the heal.

EDIT: Hardest boss is definitely the Tutorial boss (Varg). It's the last achievement I need. All of his attacks have multiple variants that look the same. I wouldn't even bother with the achieve if save scumming didn't exist.

Can confirm, spamming the hell out of parry is the way to go.

Do you hear yourself? There doesn't need to be a nerf as long as two or more people have beaten it? That's preposterous. Proof read yourself lol.
If that were valid logic, then essentially nothing released that was beaten by *someone* somewhere would ever require a nerf.

Plenty have finished the game which means they have beaten the first boss. Nerfing him doesn’t address the issue people have the fact nothing before him really prepares the player.

My point still stands...? Beatable doesn't mean balanced.

Just to mention, many players use trainers in almost every single player game.

That's true, there are subhumans like these. But making an argument that because some players cheat stats are invalid is stretching it out. Because this argument can be made, as you yourself said, for every single player game. Thus it's meaningless

Hell, even for multiplayer games you can make an argument "many people use achievement unlocker and bots so nothing is relevant"
