This is the first time I have seen that happen with any game. That flickering was killer and it was hurting my eyes.
This is BIZARRE, given that burn-in/image persistence issues on both CRT and LCD screens are the result of prolonged exposure to the image. To the best of my knowledge, no amount of flickering over a short period would be able to cause that.
Do you have a picture or anything to back this up? I'm not trying to be antagonistic or anything, it's just such a weird claim.
We'll try to nail what could cause this issue on our side. I don't know if this can be a problem with the game or just the fault of the monitor panel itself, but we'll do our best to find out if there can be any problem on our end. During our internal playtesting we haven't found anything like that, and any information would be really helpful.
A basic info like: what monitor it is (model), what refresh rate, what cable did you use to connect it to your pc, your graphics card model and drivers number would be super sweet to have ;)
Radeon Rx590 and latest driver 20.8.3
I doubt this was a monitor issue at all. It was the insane flickering of the images. This happened about 20 minutes into the game, visiting the place of power. For a moment I imagined that the color flickering was part of the effect of the place, but it was super distracting and hard to look at, but then realized it was not a feature as I moved to another location and the flickering continued. That's when I closed the game (flickerinmg happened still in the intro screen as well) and realized looking at the Steam app that the UI (Rage, Willpower and Health with their respective icons) was burned into the screen. After some tinkering, I left the screen on white for most of the day and now it is gone.
This is the first time ever that I see such a burn, especially since it was just a few minutes that the flickering lasted until I closed the game. Whatever was happening I imagined had to do with graphic drivers more than anything.
I don't know about the FreeSync, but we'll see if this can somehow be "biting" over the drivers somehow. Thank you again - glad you have managed to fix it.
I can confirm the game has no issues at 144Hz running on an RTX 2070.
I'd question if perhaps AMD/Viewsonic did you dirty and you just happened to be playing this when it happened?
Seems like a far more plausible explanation.
The burned image went away after I changed the wallpaper to a blank screen and left it for a whole day.
I don't know how it happened, but it happened with this game after it started flashing intensively. In fact, I forced exit the game as it was hurting my eyes. I never thought it was a deliberate thing that the game does, but the intense flashing happened and it produced the burned image. And like I explained, the image was the UI of the game.
I hope that the developers can take a look at what may have caused that flashing and correct it.
