Remove ruler from a battle?

Maybe I missed this looking thru the different threads, but is this even possible? I don't want to have my ruler participate in every battle. In previous entries you could assign prefects, etc.. in this game I see you assign Grand General, Strategists and Generals.. but I don't see an option of handing a section of my kingdom to a trusted (or untrustworthy for kicks) officer.

You can only remove the ruler from the battle if you're a Tactician or a Grand General. If you're the ruler, you have to participate. You can choose to play as a different officer that's taking part in the battle, but that's it.

Huge downgrade, I know, but there's your answer.
