Otherwise I mostly treat them as being there to hold aggro from a few enemies when I'm up against larger groups.
Plus there's the whole thing where they can pick you up when you're downed.
If I don't bring any allies, will the boss HP and damage scale down or will it just be much harder to solo him?
On the mission where you have to get the camera I whiffed the landing on where you are supposed to go ended up going around from the back. When the boss fight started I went to get the enemies I missed. Ryoma and Gonzo not only held their own, but almost did the entire boss fight without me. I was surprised. The ronin you free at the public orders are also pretty good at holding their own.
But I'm still not sure if removing them changes the balance of the boss's dmg and hp. Gonna try and test that out,
Not only do some of them have unique moves the player cannot get (like the french shield guy), but it makes boss fights interesting as you can start a combo with one guy, quick switch to another, switch back,...etc.
I'm actually disappointed that they are limited to just missions, as I would love to travel with allies and play as or use them in the open world.
Tells me your probably blocking to much.
