What does difficulty effect ?

Games like Nioh 2 or Wo Long didn't have difficulty settings in the conventional sense. They had NG+ and so on for difficulty scaling.

How does it manifest in this game ? I started with mid difficulty to get the hang of the game and I'm willing to increase difficulty to hard if it presents some kind of rewards(better loot, more xp, etc.)

On higher difficulties enemies deal more hp and ki damage. It also affects counterspark windows. On dawn difficulty the game feels trivial because the timing is so generous that you can just smash buttons and parry every single attack

No. But there's one that you have to beat one mission on Midnight Difficulty, which you unlock upon completing the game

Dawn gives you a more forgiving counterspark window

I’m not sure if it scales from there to dusk and twilight, twilight and midnight don’t really feel any different to me

twilight until midnight, it's the same but other has a more easy parry window.

How do I progress midnight ? I did all the missions and I still somehow can't progress to the next zone.

Do bond missions as well, they add to the bar and are needed to progress it to the next area

Yea they’re area locked to when you’d have them available normally, so you might only have the first bond mission for a lot of the characters, but you should be able to finish filling the bar for the next area, which should also unlock more bond missions

So I did all the missions + the bond mission as well as tons of random encounters in the map. Is there a specific thing I need to do to unlock the next zone ? Do you I have to grind it out in the open world(clear enemy activities)?

I just realized I didn't do all the bond missions. I missed a few. So yeah now the bar is filled up.
