When to parry
I'm loosing my mind here. Not sure if I'm bad or I don't understand,
Are you supposed to use the spark thingy when the enemy flashes with the red dot, or when the attack hits you? Because the window between them seems so big it keeps throwing me off

When you are about to get hit, sword/fist/bullet close to the face? mash Y

The red flash is just you know you can't block and to be "alert" :sunekosuri:

Yea its just before the attack lands. Some parries are tricky because the red dot flashes and then they will do the move a second or two later. Just a part of the learning curve of the game.
The red dot is also there to mess with you. Sometimes you have to parry immediately, other times maybe even a second later. You kinda have to learn each attack. Unfortunately, there are many of them where you have to block immediately, so when faced with a new attack, you kinda have to parry the moment you see the dot and hope for the best.

Okay, I understand.
Man, why is the red flash there for then. I would prefer if they just glowed red, the flash obscures the movement :/

Right before the attack lands:

The red is to show the tell. The flash is to tell that the attack has started.

Parry is hard. The time change for enemy and weapon. Easy to say when, hard to do the right time.

The Red Flash is basically a warning that an unblockable attack is active. Its a good indicator for prepping a dodge, But not so much for a parry. The best time to parry is with in a few frames or so. about 8ish? or so frames (I may be wrong on this. going off fighting game experience/Feels). right before the attack intersects with your hitbox.

If you're trying to parry a red attack. Ignore the flash all together and aim for the above. Or dodge. Sometimes its not worth the risk until you're more familiar with the timing.
