The Port is better than I expected, let me explain
I have to admit that I approached the game with the expectation that it will have performance issues without the upside of visuals. And at first, I did let it impact my play and I barely gave it a thumbs up as it was impressive visually with great combat. I was thinking that alone gave it the thumbs up, but the downside of performance almost took it away. However, my preconceived expectations eroded the more I played. Let me explain.

As I was in the training mode, I did see some visual nuance that let me know there are a few things that could impact performance. I saw by far the best grass graphics sway physics in the game. Not necessarily art direction, but the appearance of true movements. While that alone wasn't enough, I began to see some motion physics that began to reveal an engine that was heavily detailed. The details are significantly more-so than any of the other games I am playing - Ghost of Tsushima, AC Valhalla etc. It rivals the very best, including some souls-like games I have played.

Then I began to notice the details of the wood, the metal, the ship and the like. As I moved along, I began to really formulate the idea of why it could be so taxing.

So, while I could run this natively at 4k/60 on my 4090, I was able to turn down some settings on my RTX 4080 laptop to get a 4k/120 with legit no difference in visual impact unless I played this on my 65" QD-OLED TV. Then, I would turn up a few of the textures and run upscaling and whalla. it was perfection.

I personally think we have been too hard on this game.

Yeah people are making it out as if this this was the worst PC port. They seem forgot Avowed was bad, and more recently Monster hunter. For me they got to unplayable. While Ronin isn't the greatest port its at least playable for me and ultimately that's what matters to me more.

Bro ppl are loosing save data. I myself have encountered a game breaking bug that was present on the PS5. Your camera obscura just disappears from your inventory permanent.

This a shoddy freaking port.

Save Data definitely is a problem (Havent experienced it yet, fingers crossed). And I'm sure they could squeeze out a few more FPS from this port.

But it certainly is significantly better than I was thinking it was going to be

Haven't experienced either of those issues but I agree they need to be addressed. Especially the camera being removed as that can actually block progression in the game.
Conversely, none of the badly optimized (and dysfunctionally buggy) games really deserve to be defended (on the grounds of bad optimization being acceptable). It's true some systems are powerful enough to power through, but I think we'd all benefit as customers if the standard were simply: "Badly optimized games are unacceptable."

If you like the game fine, but let's not pretend that a future where companies release badly optimized games would be good for the everyday customer. Perhaps I'm wrong, on that count, in someone's view. In such a case, well, I'll just have to live with being wrong in the view of an amount of people.

I don't really care which badly optimized game is worst, I care that they're badly optimized at all. I'd like that not to be the standard we accept now, or in the future.

That is a lot of bull......
I want to play this, but I'm concerned about it's performance after just enduring the embarrassingly terrible Monster Hunter Wilds.

That game runs "fine" on my PC despite the underwhelming graphics but my main issue with it is it's Ultra wide support.

MH does have it, but its implementation is terrible. I mean not only because of the pillar boxing, but the fact that they are grey instead of black is just more galling. Black on an OLED like I have would at least make it far less intrusive. It's extremely amateur and in 2025 we really should expect and get better.

So my question is how do you think I would go with this title playing at a 3440x1440 resolution with a 9800X3D and 4080 Super?

It's ludicrous I even need to ask tbh but here we are in 2025.
I set this to standard + DLSS Performance with 60 FPS, and I don't drop a single frame. Wilds is so buggy that it is unplayable. So this runs better than wilds.

In my opinion, it'll run quite well on your machine.

I run 4k DLSS Quality on my 4090 and get about 100FPS, FG pushes it well past the 144hz of my display.
I play this on a 7950x and a 4090, 64GB of ddr5-6000, installed on a 4TB Crucial P3 NVME.

I have 7 hours played and 7 crashes. Not to mention that it somehow becomes "slow motion" on 120fps. Just now, the camera disappeared from my inventory so now I have to reload a save losing 5 hours of progress. When it runs, it runs great... for about 40 minutes then the game bugs out... HARD.

Runs fine-ish on my 5700x paired with 3080ti playing on 3440x1440.
