Worse than Nioh 2 and even Wo Long
Other things like the story, acting, art, animations, graphics, etc, are all terrible.
I think the problem is not a real one.
In real it just shows who is one of the fellow traveller.
Running no DLSS, 1080p, 60 fps cap. Game runs stable 60 in combat, in city sometimes drops to 57. In cutscenes not uncommon to drop into 38-40 fps.
Gameplay-wise pretty boring so far. Just reached first big town (Yokohama), hopefully gets more interesting once I unlock more weapon styles.
In Nioh every weapon type felt different, like Monster Hunter
In this game they're cosmetic, like Wo Long
Not running DLSS, 1440p, 120 fps cap. So far, I haven't had any framerate hitches that I've noticed, though I don't have an FPS counter on. Historically speaking, you know when a Team Ninja games runs lower, as it basically becomes unplayable and feels like it's in slow-motion, and I haven't experienced that yet.
I've gotten through the prologue and entered the open world, cleared most of the first area. I find it pretty underwhelming so far, which is frustrating. The open world feels very checklist-y. You can auto-run to specific areas with your horse, which helps mitigate some of the travel tedium, but you're still waiting and watching your horse/character travel. Story has surprising amount of emphasis for being a Team Ninja game, which I'm not into, but others may enjoy that aspect conversely. There are difficulty options, so the game is likely accessible for many more people.
I have a 4080 / Ryzen 9 7900X and i'm running literally everything at max, at 120fps, with disabled DLSS
Team Ninja is not a studio known for their technical achievements, so no it's not an impressive game visually, but that's expected from them, the meat is in the combat, customization and gameplay loop
This guy is yapping but clearly never played Wo Long
What's funny is that it's usually the other way around.
People with potato PCs will play 40fps 1080p low settings with constant dips and stutters and then swear that the game runs buttery smooth.
People with high end PCs want games to actually run properly on their hardware.
Nioh 2 weapon system is much more in depth than Wo Long, they added some nice mechanics on DLC weapons like charge attacks for Long Sword but the main game weapons all have the same basic gameplay
The issue is that people buy a prebuilt and think that corners were not cut (both on the hardware/software side) and they don't have to setup anything in the bios or windows to get things running remotely optimal. People treat PC gaming now as if it's a plug an play console experience. I have similar results on a 12700k and 4090. I have no stuttering at native 1440p, unlike the top review. Even the more technical reviews of the game said it didn't have the frame pacing issues of previous engine titles, but there was something wrong with a few of the ultra settings that was tanking performance.
This engine had way more issues in Nioh 2/Wo Long/Wild Hearts. It's a shame they didn't optimize it as well as Dynasty Warriors Origins, but this game is simply running on an older engine build.
