Not even remotely similar in any way at all
Same era of Japan’s history, the Meiji era
In some ways, it seems so. That's one reason I got it. Seems like your protagonist has a bit of back story in this though, maybe just more story in general. I personally preferred the blank slate protagonists in WotS, where you're a drifter who shows up in the area without any backstory at all. Better for RP, in my opinion.

I wonder if this game will allow you the choice of either killing or knocking out enemies. If not, I'd also be bummed about that. The whole "edge" or "blunt" thing wasn't added into WotS until 3, but I thought that was so dang cool when it was. I was the guy trying to be like Kenshin Himura sometimes, even in WotS 1 or 2. In 2, they at least had NPCs that'd sheath their swords and run away from you in terror if you got their health down low enough.

I do wonder if I'll think combat is better than WotS, though. Seems like it may be. I mean, to be frank, it probably wouldn't be too hard to pull that off. As much as I like WotS in concept (would love to see the concept applied to other time periods as well, such as American Western for example), I doubt many would consider it's combat system to be the best out there (I probably enjoyed WotS 2's the most, personally).

Co-op, even if limited, is exciting for me. When I first saw this announced, I was even more excited, seeing how similar it was to WotS but hearing it's open world with co-op!? Yeah, sadly, not "co-op campaign" but limited to certain co-op missions. Still, closest to a co-op WotS you're probably ever getting. Heck, probably the closest we're getting to a new WotS at all for awhile, maybe ever.

Hope everyone enjoys the game. Now, we wait for release...

From what i read, the unarmed style is a way to 'non--lethally' dispatch enemies. Not sure if it'll affect plot/choices but there's that to look forward to.
