Nioh was a mission based farming simulator that was all about gear, especially once you got to the NG+ cycles and beyond. I personally didn't enjoy that aspect of it but I understand why many people liked it and I think it works for that kind of game.
Ronin, on the other hand, is an open world narrative based game where gear doesn't play nearly as important a role as it did in Nioh. Yet you're constantly being bombarded with pointless copy/paste loot with tiny percentage differences throughout your playthrough. How Team Ninja thought this loot system would fit here is baffling.
It's no wonder the loot system was one of the main complaints among early reviews. It's just terrible.
