Mods
I heard the game's engine is difficult to mod for some reason. Hopefully we'll still see mods for this game

I think the Katana engine is really bad. Its ability to support mods is extremely poor. I hope that Team NINJA (TN) can switch to an engine that can better support mods in the future.

It's still mind blowing that they don't. You'd think they do it for the easy good PR when modders can help fix your games and make them better so people don't feel ripped off when you release an unoptimized mess.

It's a part of japanese mindset. Find me one company from that country that endorses or does at least have truly neutral attitude towards mods.

They consider product to be provided as-is and anything user does is interfering in the intended "perfect" vision which would imply that the delivered product was not perfect and that's a big no-no.

There are also legalities that are specific to japan with things like character likeness or voiceovers where the company is somehow held liable for misuse done by end users so they just anally try to prevent any sorts of modding.

Tbf Yoshi P is cool with mods on FFXIV as long as people stfu about them and not use them for cheating.

nope, the katana engine is an overhauled engine and it's much harder to mod, that's why wo long has no mods
The Katana engine has existed in some form since Ninja Gaiden Sigma, but they only actually gave it a name with DW9 (the first game to use it.) Nioh, Nioh 2, Strangers of Paradise and Wo Long all use this engine, just heavily modified.

Here's the spooky thing, though: Dynasty Warriors Origins uses this engine and that game runs exceptionally well, so there IS a revision of this engine out there that isn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Dynasty Warriors 9 was the open world one wasn't it? Didn't that one have major performance issues? DW:Origins went back to stage/mission based level design didn't it? Katana engine does not seem like it was made with open world in mind.

Not really though, RotR walks so DW:O could run, DW 9 is their first foray with the new katana engine and what they used in DW:O basically new more optimized katana engine, kinda same case with RGG studio and their Dragon engine that's pretty d*gshit when they used it for RGG 6 on PS4 (sub 30 fps) but current DE 2.0 has complete smooth performance
