Regardless of what side someone belongs to, nations/governments statistically average two centuries before being replaced. And of course natural disasters happen far more often. Even if it is propaganda, prepping has value beyond politics.Playing a game about it, I dunno...

Prepping doesn't necessarily mean just guns. Perhaps that means you need to stockpile toilet paper and papertowels :)

Most of the prepping is done in the US in the central states where they have serious tornado destruction. an underground shelter will keep your family safe and ensure you have some immediate supplies.

Any number of events could and do occur on a regular basis where citizens are often on their own for varying period of time before help can get to them. Hurricanes, Typhoons, Tornadoes, Pandemics, Wildfires all qualify as those that 'Prepping' can deal with and thats before even reaching into anything theoretical

Do you have a smoke detector in your home? A Fire extinguisher? that is a very basic low-level of prepping.

I get where you're coming from, and find the premise a bit overly paranoid. But whether or not prepping is a good thing (I don't think it's so bad, considering natural disasters do happen, and there's no harm in being prepared for them), I can separate my political feelings from the game. In the context of the game, the character lives in an authoritarian regime and he wants to escape. Fine. I'll go along with it. I don't have to really believe our country is heading that way or is already there.
