Disable anti drone tower?

How do we disable the anti- drone towers?
I tried shooting at the little ball thingy on top but it does nothing. Even tried shooting it with an EMP...no effect.

Or is this a "gameplay feature", i.e. there's no way to disable them?

I replayed the game and control even says "Don't even try to destroy or disable them". Seems strangely limiting in a game with so many features. So many places it would make sense to use a drone, are precisely where they won't let you use one. ?
