Have you noticed certain failed attempts of these so called Sniper Elite developers to compete against the long range feature of this game?
Contracts 2 - 5th june 2021.
Sniper Elite 5 release date - 26th may, 2022.
They designed the game firsthand and then they see SGWC2 has a extreme long range feature. So, they just readily implement some bullseyes and personnels 2000m away, think about it. The game design tells you the whole story.
I was a fan(not a big one) until Sniper Elite 4. But when they released Sniper Elite 5, it turned into absolute hate and I didn't see anything except a business model in each corner of the game including the denuvo tactics which one can overlook for the moment.
*as i'm tiny sleepy and semi busy some else

People who like this game are well aware of this limitations and bought it knowingly, at least I did. Cuz I thought the things you're mentioning as bad, are not that much relevant and other "far better" games are there to provide me those. You can try Ghost Recon, nice coop and descent save system. But no other sniper games can give you the feel of Contracts and I can bet on that. The save system didn't get in the way.
I don't how it appears to you that the game is not giving you enough space. All the classic 3 maps(sniper elite equivalent) are descent sized maps. Now you can't expect to find too many space when you're sniping from say from 1.5 clicks. That poses a constraint and an actual disadvantage/difficulty of sniping. You can't expect everything good in every situation. Play the short range maps and you'll get enough space to move like Sniper Elite.
Now at last I would say one thing. Every game has its own tactics of playing. If you try COD/PUBG style with SGWC you'll end up dead and it'll cause irritation. People are ready to play contracts but does not have patience to play like a sniper, I've seen it plenty of times. This makes people hate the game.
I have played only Sniper Elite V2, which is the best game in that franchise. Level designs are the best, and depending on reality, there was no silencer in those times. But still, there is a very creative way to kill enemies stealthily in Sniper Elite V2. The method is like this: from time to time, airplanes cross the air and make loud sounds. You should wait for them to come and then shoot your enemies. By this method, nobody would hear your shootings because of airplane loud sounds.
Sniper Ghost Warrior is most similar to the old franchise I.G.I., but it's not good like that because in the SGW series there are too many HUDs and the game is not as hard as in the I.G.I. series. SGW 1 and 2 were linear, but the problem is that those had limited areas for a sniper game. So they made Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 an open-world game, and it became the worst. Completely dead world, and everything was pointless in it. So the developers decided to make it balanced, and SGWC 1 and 2 became sandboxes. Means half linear and half open-world. So SGW Contracts 1 and 2 are the best games in the series, but they are still not perfect. There is not much of a story in it, and you don't feel your enemies and main targets are important enough to care about killing them.
So in the end, I suggest you play Sniper Elite V2 and SGWC 1 and 2, especially if you want a very similar game to the old popular I.G.I. games.
This has better sniping, hands down, but the map design has taken a step back itself from the first. It's pretty bad in places, but it's still pretty fun once you get past those bits.
