Were you inspired by Disco Elysium at all? It really hearkens back to that "painting" art style.

No, not directly. The team were not thinking about Disco Elysium, we created several iterations of examples how the game may look like it just was natural for us to go into this art direction, especially that the game is set in the 90s. We even didn’t seen it like that until we seen some of the comments 😉
