Do I Need to Play The Original Game to Understand The Remake?

For as silly as this question seems It's a genuine question since this'll be my first Risk of Rain game that I've played, do I "need" to play the original to get a better understanding of the series or am I fine with playing the remake with little to no knowledge what so ever?

You should be fine for the most part. I never played through the original Risk of Rain 1 much and only had played Risk of Rain 2 before getting this remake.

The remake has more or less the same story as the original, with some extra lore here and there. I'd definitely recommend getting the remake over the 2013 version.

You're going to be completely fine playing this one. You'll probably like it more as well. The first game's still pretty fun, but with the release of RoRR I feel that it's mostly for people that want to see the origins of the series or those that are purists to the original's gameplay. It's not bad by any means, but this one's much more polished and accessible.

lore-wise, everythings so (i wanna say convoluted but i dont think thats the right word lol) Darksouls-like, its way easier and youll probably have a better time understanding it by watching a video on the lore on YouTube or somethin
