Engineer Beam Drone Unlock

I want to get the beam drone unlock, but every time I start a run as engie, no laser/beam drones ever show up throughout the entire run. Is this a recurring problem for anyone else or am I just getting trolled by rng?

You are definitely getting trolled by rng. One time i gave up trying to get the beam drone for engineer, so i switched to HAND-D to get some unlocks for him and somehow got a beam drone on the final level. Your best chance is finding at least 2 laser drones before the second-to-last stage. If otherwise, restart the run.

It's actually reasonably common to find Beam Drones on the final stage, more commonly than other tier 2 drones (not counting Assault drones), so I'd suggest finishing your runs to see if one shows up rather than restarting hastily.
If you have access to the Artifact that removes chests and gives enemies a chance to drop items I'd suggest running with that, with chests removed from the generation pool it feels like you get a lot more drones.
