Why is Bandit so awful?

Not sure what you're talking about but sounds like skill issue, Bandit is pretty strong.

I mean maybe on anything that isn't monsoon, but he has atrocious aoe and you can't proc his assassinate nearly as often after the first 2 worlds.

I'm trying to do the last trial with him now, and his smoke bomb keeps dropping right after I use it for no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason.

His primary fire seems like it deals less damage than the tooltip says it should. It lists 150% for his shot, and 300% for dynamite, but when I tried testing him out a bit on the providence trial his gunshots were doing about a fourth of dynamite damage instead of half.

I've also had smoke bomb instantly drop a lot on me, I think it might be some kind of input buffering issue?

on my own outright skill issues though i cannot judge at all what the healthbar threshholds will be for his execute, which makes me pretty bad at banditing

Bandit was incredibly hard in the OG as well; They NERFED his revolver in returns for some ungodly reason, but his dynamite is much better since it stuns now; The main things that kept bandit from being unusable was having a pretty good primary, tied for best damage stat growth, and smokebomb glitch allowing unlimited speed if you got amethyst; Without speed glitch and the fact he eats his own smokebomb 90% of the time makes him GODAWFUL at least with stock

Because he isn't awful, he's just one of the tricky survivors to play. Just make sure to pick your targets well for the Lights Out resets, plan and set some plays around that and you'll be fine.
Bandit is really fun when you unlock his potential. Yes even in Monsoon.

Found him the easiest class to play. His damage is great and the smoke screen is able to escape any situation and give you plenty of time to move.

His range is great too.

Shoot -> trigger Smokebomb -> disable Smokebomb because you're technically still shooting your previous shot.

He's SO much stronger in RoR2, but he's definitely not bad in this game. Don't be afraid to stand in the middle of stuff while stealthed, so you can pick off a monster at low health with your ult. The ult becomes useless really quickly though, but items should be scaling you at that point.

his primary skill is bugged and deals 80% damage instead of the intended 150%. that's pretty much the entire reason why he feels so weak - his damage output is half of what it's supposed to be

you fool. you absolute buffoon. im already guessing this is because standoff isnt exactly desperado. but ill convince ya to switch to it if u want. standoff shots buff EVERYTHING. so yeah. do yourself a favor. get standoff from a prov trial. and s h r e d .

There are some bugs with his default skills.
His alternate skills arguably make him the best character in the game. The only character stronger I think is parry merc, which despite the reputation of timing attacks is probably one of the easiest ways to play the game as well.
