1x zoom provides so much information, but...
I feel like having 1x zoom provides so much good information, you can see the location of everything you can interact from so much further away, but at the same time I feel like I have to lean into my screen to actually interpret what is actually on the screen, I'm already wearing glasses, and I also feel like it just disconnects my controlling from the survivor to the point of it feeling way harder to control on a perspective that provides all the available information compared to a comfortable perspective.

I wouldn't critique a game without providing a fix though, add an optional control of "zoom switching" (not the best name but just for the idea) having this button bound to a key allows you to select two different zoom options, and pressing the button switches between those zooms.

Hope I'm not the only one who wants this, and if I am, oh well I guess.

great idea tbh I keep my zoom on 1.4 so I have some greater fov and still can see things on my screen

a quick-toggle for scaling would be great but i think it'd be even better if you could just nudge the camera around to look further in a given direction, such as by using the right joystick on most controllers, or the arrow keys if you're using WASD+mouse, or WASD if you're using the classic layout

dungeon drafters had something like this for game speed that let you adjust how much faster or slower the game would be when you toggle that key in tandum with a general game speed option. I never knew how much I wanted a feature like that. a feature like this was on my list of "things that RORR will definitely have when it launches" list and i'm genuinely surprised it didn't make the cut

Given how many posts there are asking for a zoom toggle, I'm sure it'll be implemented eventually.

This is the reason I find the Switch version of this game FAR superior.

On the Switch, you can hit the Home button twice and it freezes the game so you can adjust the zoom EXACTLY as you'd like on fly. Just like OP wants. This is a Nintendo feature of course, and "isn't intended by the devs."

But let's think about that entitlement on their part for a second. And their whole despicable "we don't owe you anything" thing. No one owes you money either. Pulling the zoom out this far causes eye strain in most humans. If that is your "artistic intent," you're just stupid and arrogant.

That's why I got the Switch version. So I could relieve my eye strain in a way the developers didn't intend. Thanks guys!

I mean, this is basically the default zoom level in RoR1. 1x, that is. It's vaugely almost weird to me that they set 2x as the default and I and plenty of others handled it just fine back then. It's vaguely clear that the original gameplay was designed to play that zoomed out.

Not that I'm saying we shouldn't have a zoom toggle or anything, but like, if it causes you eye strain, zoom in. If it doesn't, don't.

I think that the game shuold have a hotkey to adjust the zoom.

Try 1.25x zoom and 1.5 HUD scale, works nicely for me.

Still a wide FOV but a bit easier on the eye.
