i imagine this must seem impossibly difficult for something that hasn't played the original
The game feels like the difficulty time scale is accurate now too, where getting to hard means things are already dicey. I've had runs where I went at the boss as soon as I found it on very easy and got clapped, so yeah it's pretty hard, I hesitate to say weirdly hard, but that's just me coming from RoR1.
RoRR is on the same difficulty level as the original sans some new enemies, or unless you like turning on all artifacts. It's harder because the fundamental design is way different than 2. For one, there are no item cascades where items proc other items proc other items proc... you get it. It's also why I actually like the Judgement trial.
Personally RoRR is easier, I can win monsoon runs a lot more consistently and with any character, unlike RoR2.
Being able to shoot any enemy you want also made it a lot easier.
And my friends don't want to play it since the 2 is funnier than this one.
