iron shards and where to find them

anyone know where i can find iron shards.. they don't seem to be dropping when I mine the rocks and I am not able tot get a refinery yet.

You'll find rocks with chunks of metal in them in the mines. You'll be able to see the metal chunks in the rocks, so you don't need to bother breaking random ones.

You can also smelt actual STONE and you get a chance at getting metal shards.

i still cannot find any shards in the rocks and am unable to move forward in the game. i cannot get a smelter either. not sure what is going on but cannot progress in game till i get them.

The rocks in the mine that drop iron look different than the ones that drop stone. Be sure you are building bridges to explore further into the mine

The stones that drop the shards will have shiny objects embedded in them. They catch light well and they're a bit more jagged in design. I want to say they're a bit shorter than other rock nodes too. They can be found in dungeons and on deserts. :)

You can build in the mine, almost all iron nodes are locked behind places you have to build to get to.

Ive been in the mines for a hot minute now and cannot find any either. I remember them being a lot more common before this last update. I have only found ONE and I used it to get my watering can. I cant even find enough to make the refinery (only cost 5) which will allow me to make even more. any ideas?

They're typically off on rocks that you need to jump to or parkour up to. They're certainly out of the way.

I hate to sound like im complaining or lazy.....but I havent even seen any out of the way paths/areas that I have even thought to jump towards.... IMO the beginning of the game got a lot slower.

Honestly, I only started playing this game after the update so I don't have any previous knowledge. There is plenty of iron to be found in the mines. You just have to build bridges to reach it.

Just use all of the stone you are finding to lay down stone foundations and also use the stone overhang (scroll to the bottom of the list) to help reach further. Many times you'll have to build one foundation with overhang on one side, and then another foundation on the other side of the gap. Rotate the camera while in build mode to make sure they line up.

It's really nice that the things you build are visible on the map. So that makes it easy to see your paths.

i found some on the desert island. do they re spawn.. i only need 4 more shards

Omg brother, there are literally hundreds of metal shard nodes in the mine.
Just enter any mine (they are all connected) and start exploring it, repair broken bridges and build YOUR OWN bridges while down there to get to other parts of the mine, you can't miss them, they are literally everywhere down there in the mines. But yes they are also sometimes found on the surface on desert islands, and yes they do respawn both on the surface and underground. Its just the desert island is a dangeous place this early in the game. Better get your mine exploration going. You will need it anyway for other resources later.
