og RE1, not the dual shock or the director cuts or nothing. Just plain old school psx re1.
og RE2 had auto aim at least my version and as far as i know auto aim was on every version of RE3.
It was intended for the Japanese market. They auto aim was removed because they wanted it that way for the rest of the world
The lack of auto aim was not a mistake like releasing the censored fmw on the "Director's Cut" release.
Plus back in 96, we played with no auto aim in fact mosf of us we found out about auto aim much much later.
It was not a 'mistake' it was a cynical move by the marketing side of Capcom. The game was not designed with it in mind, it was a late change to the overseas version of the game so people wouldn't be able to complete the game in a single rental and would be more likely to buy it.
If you like no auto-aim that's fine, but trying to paint it as though it was how the game was supposed to be and adding auto-aim was 'dumbing it down' or something is just wrong. There's a reason it was added back in every single subsequent release and every game to follow.

Having to look down or via "peripheral vision" see the orange icon light up is not ideal during combat situation.
it did in the OG japanese release and was cut from the american release to make it harder such as to combat the rental market
from a game design perspective, auto-aim makes sense and was always supposed to be there and there is a reason it was added back into every subsequent re-release and sequel in the franchise
this is impressive in how confidently wrong it is about how resident evil was designed
like if you really want to seem like a Superior Gamer by arguing for the deletion of QoL features from the game that this one is aping then idk what to tell you other than "shut up, nerd, adults are talking"
*Arrives at circus past the "FUN" door*
"Holy !@#$ does this need autoaim."
Also to the Dev: The little orange crosshair indicating something is able to be shot is *kind* of nice, but it makes me look at specifically that part of the screen rather than whatever else is going on.
pfff "adult" you???
Nice one. I bet my steam account is older than you....
Auto aim, was removed not by mistake but by a decision, that's a fact, you can't change. Unless you have a time machine and change the minds of Capcom when they were about to release the game outside Japan.
They buy an game that tries to mimic old school gaming, yet they want it to be in 4k and please be gentle, we don't want it to be hard. Gamers today want everything easy no wonder most kids rage at online gaming.
Hey we want a better QoL, give us save states and rewind function!
"Shinji Mikami noted that they made the American version harder at the request of the American staff so that the game could be rented and not be completed in a few days."
Auto aim was built in to both the original and its Director's Cut version, as well as EVERY SINGLE SEQUEL, not to mention the entire Silent Hill franchise. Or do you think "Old School" means one specific version of one specific game of one specific franchise that wasn't even the original survival horror?
In fact, the game should have all gunpowder based ammunition become WORTHLESS the MOMENT you touch water. After all, you want HARD, right? Like OLD SCHOOL hard? Like Alone in the Dark 1992 release HARD? No? Then you don't deserve to play this game.
Literally nobody is saying this. I got this game BECAUSE it's old-school. Not your phony "OMG I want it to be difficult so I can cheat then brag to everyone how totally good I am at it!" crap. Or hey, why don't the developers go REAL old school and charge you $1 per life? Or better, require you to buy a custom built several thousand dollar arcade machine to run the game? Too hard for you? Git gud, kid.
Asking for auto-aim isn't "this game is too hard!". Asking for auto-aim is "they had this Quality of Life feature for a reason, and I don't have as much free time now as I did when I was 14"
If people like you had their way, games like these wouldn't run. Also, don't even THINK about talking down to anyone here unless you break out an old CRT monitor and joystick, and some 5.25" floppy disks to install the game with.
Do anything else and you're just a whiner.
If not, no thanks, i prefer no auto-aim (im old school)
