Still can't kill first boss

Been on and off playing this since it came out... Still cannot kill first boss, at all. I really feel like it needs a nerf. I know the veterans will come in here and lay waste to this post, I just feel its a valid complaint for beginners.

The spider? I don't remember that thing being hard at all really. Is there something specific that is proving difficult?

No I'm not a veteran, I have a total play time of three hours and have just reached (and died to) the third boss. Neither the spider nor the second boss killed me as I recall.

Dash when capable, keep moving, don't let off the trigger, keep an eye out for minions coming in (I seem to recall it having minions anyway) and kill those first 'cause they're faster to kill but still do decent damage.

i do all of those things, and I literally run out of ammo

I just took him on for the first time and beat him. Personally just choose left or right and continuously circle him, don't waste ammo on the smaller spiders as they won't keep up if you rotate properly. The bigger spider dudes take out asap. Ammo seems to spawn around the map hence rotating being a good tactic. It worked well for me so I hope you can beat it.

Only other option would be level select and do the level leading up to the boss and try and conserve whatever ammo you can.

use your rockets when you have a pile of little siders circled, one rocket will take most if not all of them out, saving you some ammo

use your bow, it recharges ammo, just be slow with it

right click katana throw is also good, use that aswell
