Some feedback after finishing the game
First off, I want to preface this with saying that I really enjoyed this game as someone who has been playing it on the regular since 1991. I wasn't disappointed by it and I'm probably gonna try and play it for all its worth.

I have some feedback and some questions which I hope would be considered in a future update. For reference, I've beaten Regular, Classic and Boss Rush mode.

Classic Mode Soft Lock

When you are in Janken's Castle in Classic Mode (not to be confused with the retro filter), there is a room after the 3 frog platforming challenge where two walls with a spike ceiling descend upon you (it's the one that has a fish block that spawns a ladder). The farthest wall descends immediately as you enter the room, making it impossible to get through unless you have a cane of flight with you.

Ladder Issues

So basically, if I'm walking on the floor and there's a ladder that goes into a room below, Alex will just fall through the ladder tile sometimes. In the original, he wouldn't and would only go through that tile if you pressed down to climb the ladder.

Bike/Boat Acceleration

I wasn't entirely sure about this until I played the old game this weekend (both on original hardware and the AGES version on the Switch), but the Bike and Boat acceleration/de-acceleration is slower. I don't know if it's the time it takes after pressing the button to reach full speed, or if it goes up and down until it reaches the target speed, but it basically prevents you from speeding up and slowing on a dime. It's barely noticable, but it's enough to mess up the precise jumps required in the Forest and on the River.

Not Complaints, More Questions

There are a few things I'm curious about that I would appreciate an answer to, if possible!

  • "? Block" Sequencing - Is there any particular reason the sequencing of Ring > Ghost > Life is now persistent between levels? In the original, each level had a "starting" drop manually set, and then went from there. I think it overall equals to the same amount of lives, but it's still weird to me.
  • Missing Blocks - There are a few "?" and Electric blocks that are missing, the first one that comes to mind is the Electricl block in the Mt. Eternal water segment, in the corner. And the "?" in the little rock square in the level where you first see thunder clouds.
  • Volcano Opening - At the beginning of the Volcano level, there are blocks laid out in a number 7, because not counting the Secret Island, it's level 7. But since you added an extra level, why not change it to an 8? :P
  • Acid Bath - The Acid/Gas/Whatever trap in Janken's Castle is much more difficult as it starts already half-way down. Any reason for this?
  • Missing Secret Block - In Janken's castle, when you're climbing a tall ladder with the steaming water on the right, there should be an invisible trigger you can activate with the fire ring. It spawns an extra block that lets you get the three sacks of money. I'm guessing this was an oversight?
  • Collectibles - Do we need to get them all in one playthrough, or does the game keep track of all the ones we've collected between playthroughs?

First playthrough without skipping dialog cutscenes was around 2 hours, but I almost game over'd near the end.

i agree with the bike spieed. yes in the original it was hard as well, but here it doesnt seem to instantly react to your input, making it even harder. i restarted forest like 5 times and couldnt get to the end :D

Yup, I was surprised as well when trying to do the first bike jump on the forest and didn't make it to the other side of the spike pit.

Really glad you enjoyed, especially as such a big fan! Thanks for the excellent feedback, here's some information for you.

Classic Mode Soft Lock
Not seen by QA, but we're investigating and hope to fix ina patch.

Ladder Issues
This is being looked into for a patch.

Bike/Boat Acceleration
We're looking into this

Block Sequencing - We're looking into it, but need to balance any potential change with how the game works at the moment so it may remain as it, as you say it generally equals out.

Missing electric blocks - As it's a recreation of the original game not a 1:1 exact copy of the original game, there's soem things like this that may have been missed, or omitted by choice.

Volcano opening - a nice suggestion, though as i'm sure you've seen changes to the original are proving quite contentious so for the immediate patches we'll be focusing in bux fixes.

Acid Bath - This will be raised and hopefully address in the next patch.

Missing Secret Block - This one was missed, we hope to add in the patch.

Collectibles - Must be collected in one full playthrough!

Copying my feedback from other post:

i have passed alex kid in miracle world in all platforms since its release at master system II (the name of the console here in spain) about 20-25 times. And this controls are awfull. You CANT move ONE STEP like the original. You CANT jump as the original, jump and go backward is just impossible. You CANT move forward in the air while you are falling like the original. OK you want a "retro controls", justo COPY the same controls as the original and you will get a "retro controls". This is not about the controls are retro or not. The game is in practice, so hard to control and sometimes impossible. The jungle stage is a constant die due to this, the first castle is a fu**** joke with this controls. Die repaeat, die. Continue: ok you got some objects, others not. Why? I mean the star sphere hidden at the first castle. Why do you save your brother, the letter is there even if you conitnue the game but the sphere not?
Anyway, as i said, the controls are the worst part. Please fix it, this is not the tribute this game deserves.

I finished the game too just now, and second everything Real Soviet Bear posted. Otherwise, nicely done, I grew up with the original, and loved everything new your remake brought to the table.

I just have a small nitpick: upon meeting Gooseka for the first time, he says "you'll have to get passed me first". Shouldn't it be "get PAST me"?

There's a small bit of Engrish in this game, yeah. The one that gets me is when the monkey says "Haha, you fell!" Like, fell where? Did he mean I "fell for it"?
