Sleeping Gas

Can someone explain how this Sleeping Gas works. I can open the can, but what am i supposed to do next?

i dont get how it works tbh, i used it WITHOUT the respirator and literally nothing happened.
i creeped up to a dog, was standing almost on top of him and after 5 seconds he fell asleep.
i never used it besides that one time tbh

The gas is supposed to fill up the room when you turn it on, so having the respirator on while indoors is recommended, otherwise you yourself go to sleep as well, but also houses with smoke detectors will go off, police will arrive with face masks on

Note: It does not work instantly, even if you stand behind someone or next to someone, it will take about 3 seconds to trigger

Just hit house 201, saw a panel on the wall for "gas detectors." Guess you can turn them off, so long as you find the panel or can remote-hack it with a laptop. If the house doesn't have a control panel for them, probably not unless the crowbar would work (and then the noise gets you noticed anyhow).

You have to equip the respirator from the tools wheel before you use the gas. Just having it in your inventory isn't enough.

Just remember to remove the respirator when you leave the property and are clear of the gas cloud. Not 100% sure but I think it does make you slightly more noticeable.
