You probably gained entry through the front door. In Thief 1, if you picked the lock, and owner returns back to house and opens the door, he will see it is unlocked and call police. Use windows in this case.

Yes that was the issue but i found that you can also re-lock doors and it doesnt alert the owner

Another tip is to, if you ever modify a door, you should always make sure to put it back the way it was, even if the said person didn't see it, and someone of the same household had it a specific way, they can somehow know if it was modified, although unrealistic

I had an instant where several household members were going to sleep, one was up, one going to sleep, door was open, later, the other went to the same bed to sleep, so both are sleeping, the door was closed this time by the other household member, so I then opened it, as the first household member woke up, since they had it open originally, but their household member closed it and I re-opened it, as it stands coded that I modified the door even though the household member didn't see it was me, then the cops came because of that reason

Just something to keep an eye out for, always make sure to make sure everything was the way it was if you want to remain undetected at a location

Good Luck & Have Fun :smiling:

I had an even weirder experience. I put all the large items next to the locked front door, hid in a room with the door closed (they were not coming in here), and as the second one left, she stepped over the paintings and large super tv, making a large noise. I remind you I'm crouching in another room watching their silouettes. but she freaked out, and called the police, and big red words came up: Tenant heard you. She heard HERSELF... I hadn't made a sound. so with me now hiding under their bed, I lost my window to get it out and into the truck waiting for the cops to give up and leave.

i literally ransack peoples houses and leave ALL their cabinets and drawers open and they never call the cops or get alarmed. the only thing that makes them freak out for me is if they see a door that i forgot to re-lock or i left it open.

For me, they see my vehicle parked out-side and call the cops. I only just started but seem better to park really far away like in a nearby parking lot lol.

Are you playing on easy? They definitely notice when I leave draws open on normal difficulty. I think interior doors don't matter unless they were locked though.

are there any difficulty modes?
I didn't find any.
I thought that hard mode only removes HUD aids and tool tips

Yes when you start a new game. Easy, Normal and Hardcore

Easy says "for people who enjoy the stealing part without worrying too much about getting caught" - so I assume a lot of ways AI detects you is disabled on that.

I am currently playing on easy and leaving drawers and cabinets open causes no alerts for me

Then I'm probably on Normal, because I got "tenant has heard you" notification even 2 stories away from the tenant when I open a single drawer

BTW, is it possible to somehow skill up the actual stealth, so I create less noise when opening drawers?
ChasingCoyote Oct 10, 2023 @ 12:56pm
however if I leave an INTERIOR door open that was closed, the tenant will notice it and run all through the house searching for me

Lock all doors you unlock if they find one you unlocked than they notice, also not positive but sometimes just unlocked open doors they notice but not sure so I doubt it
