What you're playing is a tech demo, so it's all about showing the tech concept. There is an entire 1:1 Milky way to explore, which will, over, time, be more fleshed out with gorgeous things to look at, experiment on, and you'll be able to land on planets. Apart from exploring space, the player will join a crew of 200 NPC to do daily jobs on the ship itself.

Its playable as it is now. Very limited but its playable and I am enjoying a ton just in the state that the game is in. Give it a shot, if you like space stuff.

Is there ACTUALLY gonna be 200 crewmates? Or is it more like the Population is 200 but the NPCS you can interact with is a lot less? Or can we actually find every single crew?

There will be 199 Ai crew mates, plus you so that will be 200. Each crew mate has their own room on the ship so you'll be able to follow them around the ship as they do whatever they do that day, and go back to their room. Crew members will die as well, so over time crew will get smaller until they are refilled at space stations.

From what I've read this is what's available after three years of work. A partially completed ship and a star system. Listening to the developers you get the impression that the project is massive. Don't like to say it but it sounds like another Star Citizen level project only without the manpower or funds to proceed.

That's why there is a Kickstarter campaign running currently. To bring in the funds that will allow the hiring of more manpower.

How many people do you think those kickstarter funds will support and for how long. I would guess maybe 3 people for about one year. They might finish the ship but then there's that space station you mentioned in another post for crew. So, another 2, 3 or 4 years to design and build that space station with the complexity of the ship. I'm going to need more convincing then - this is planned or that is planned. I mean the planets seem to be 2 dimensional and there are no moons.

Dan (I think that's his name) has a very nice vision for a game and he has talent but he's not a magician. A project this size will require dozens if not hundreds of people working on it and years to develop.

The main systems are already in game, so now it's a case of fleshing it all out and polishing it. Moons are easy enough, and they'll be in soon. You can already fly around the planets, and through the entire 1:1 Milky Way.

We won't be employing full time developers because, as you rightly said, the money will be gone in less than a year. So the work that needs polishing will be done by freelancers, for now. To fund further development, we have grants applied for, we'll be selling small ship to keep development going, and there will be future DLCs to fund employing people full time.
