Stray
Stray game bug? View keeps shifting automatically during Dead City Zurk chase.
The game works perfectly for me until I experience what I think is a bug when I get to Dead City and the first Zurk encounter.

My problem is not avoiding the Zurks as I run through the streets, as many people have reported.

My problem is that as I run while avoiding the Zurks, the view (POV) automatically keeps shifting, so that often I am looking backwards.

It is like a cut in a movie, so that the POV instantly changes from forward view to backward view. This means I am unable to see where I’m running, so it is impossible to avoid running into walls / obstacles, and of course then the Zurks then catch and kill me.

It doesn’t start to happen until 20 seconds or so into the run, and goes back and forth unpredictably during the run sequence.

I thought this might be happening because maybe I was accidentally pushing on something on my controller, but checked, and I’m not, as verified by my wife, who watched my hands as i played.

Then I thought maybe the problem was the controller itself. But after going back to the early “Inside The City Walls” section and running while swerving and hitting the meow button I saw that the switching view problem never happened at that part of the game. This only happens during while running through Dead City pursued by the Zurks. I don’t know if it would happen again later in the game, as I am stuck at this point in the game.

I'm playing on an Apple Mac Mini M2, running the latest OS - Sequoia 15.1.1 And I’m using a 8Bitdo Pro 2 Bluetooth Controller (Hall Effect). The controller works well in the game, and all aspects of the game work well until the Zurk encounter in Dead City.

I hope someone can help me solve this problem, as I love the game and really want to play it!

Thank you.

Instead of deleting this thread you could explain how you've solved this as it maybe of use to others

Well, the problem and solution for me may be specific to my controller. I have never used a controller before playing Stray, so maybe this is unique to the one I bought.

Anyway, what I realized was that when I was running (which required pushing the stick on the left) forward) I was also starting to push down on the top of the stick. This made the POV reverse, which made me lose my sense of direction. It is easy to do, as the stick is very short. So I had to be very careful not to ever push down on the stick (easier said than done!)

In case anyone is interested, the controller is the 8Bitdo Pro 2 Bluetooth Controller for Mac, with Hall Effect Joystick.

Hi,
Please tell me how you configured 9BitDo Ultimate controller. I am not able to find how to make the cat run. I get a message saying use "RT" to run, but there is no RT button on the controller.

I use the 9BitDo, there is an R and R2 button on the shoulder and you run with R2 by default. In the worst case you can remap keys in Settings if it doesn't automatically map correctly for you. Mine pretty much always mimics an XBox controller by default, which switches X/Y and A/B from what's labelled but otherwise works fine.
