Most innovative gameplay?
Now, I loved this game, but most innovative gameplay? The core gameplay is running around, jumping on stuff and letting your robot buddy interact with things. Not exactly groundbreaking.

This game has as much innovative gameplay as a visual novel or a walking sim

The game pretty much plays itself half the time

If we take the cat mechanics as innovative, sure it's original. But Overall the game it'self isn't really innovative. It's a great game, but as an adventure game doesn't break any glass ceiling here. It's generally an adventure game at it's core, explore around, talk to npc-s solve some simple puzzles, move on. The game doesn't do anything really new as an adventure game. I'm not saying that it's not great, just not something that wasn't done before many, many times.

But it nails it through rich atmosphere, incredible visuals, and probably it's great for those who like to solo roleplay with tons of small stuff the cat uses to act like a cat.
So while not "innovative" by any means, it's among the coolest adventure games I've played lately

Not everything has to innovate to be great, and not everything that innovates is great. But this is a wonderful game and among the biggest surprises I've had this year

Couldn't agree more. It's still a great game.

It's as innovative as a square wheel. Ooh look, it's Nathan Drake except easier and he doesn't talk or shoot as much. It's innovative cuz he's a cat.

Well then you can say that Ohhh look it's like Nathan Drake, because Uncharted is by no means innovative either. Jumpy, shooty, everyone been there done that. So, your point?

Yep, Uncharted wasn't original at all, it's a Tomb Raider copy basically. I still think it's a great game and so is Stray. There's not much originality in gaming whatsoever, but it's still quite original to play a game as a cat. There are other games, where you take a role of a cat, or a dog or different animal, but Stray did a great job in combining the cat mechanics with awesome graphics, sounds, environment and the gameplay overall is really immersive. Maybe that combination of all those aspects makes it innovative. How many games did this on such a scale?

I would say it is an innovative idea. The innovation is clearly there, just not fully realised yet in terms of actual gameplay and lasting appeal. For me, it's too linear and too short.

It's great that the game is so successful though. It's a brilliant idea but, the devs were clearly limited by budget constraints. Now that they have loads of pound in the bank, it can only get better from here on out. Or so I hope.

If Stray 2 (or DLC) turns out to be a proper open-world game with a good chunk of gameplay content, it's going to be golden. Think Assassin's Creed with a cat, who would not like that?

It's literally a generic third-person puzzle platformer. "Oh, but you're a cat now" is not innovative lol. People have memed this generic game to death to the point that it's actually being nominated as game of the year and innovative on here, which is absolutely ridiculous.

People have different tastes. Many think Call of Duty is so great, I consider it a load of rail shooter trash. Same principle, opinions differ. But I don't go around kicking up dust on the CoD forums if it wins awards.

As I said, I like the "Assassin's Creed with a cat" idea, it's just not fully realised yet. The bits of open-ended free running/parkour gameplay in Stray clearly shows the potential of what it could be like.

It also showed that a "cat game" doesn't have to be cutesy cuddly stuff all the time. It can be serious, grim and dark as well, which is the vibes I get from all the let's play videos.

Except literally nobody will argue COD has "innovative gameplay" and neither does this.
