Anyone struggle with the first zurk encounter?
*Yes I was holding shift the whole time.*

It took me literally over an hour to get past the first mandatory chase section. For some reason the sprint function seemed ineffective and within seconds of every run I'd get swarmed and it would be far too much to push off because the swarm would be just behind me.

After 80 minutes of retrying I only managed to get to the end by just not getting hit at all, which was basically 99% RNG. It was beyond frustrating. Is it a bug? A mistake? I should not be reminded of battletoads when I'm playing a cute cat game.

it would help if people read the store page before buying or complaining the game isnt all cute and fuzzy.
Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by curious droids and dangerous creatures

The first Zork encounter is not that hard really. It IS better on a controller but not a must.
Anyway. SPRINT, zig zag the oncoming Zorks and MEOW when jumped. Also pay attention where they are and learn the (straight forward) route. NO Jumping, so don't even think about it until you see the obvious place.

Some people don't want solutions, some people just want to complain. It's been almost a year since StressFrakture started ranting in this thread, discarding any advices and claiming the only legit solution is making the game a safer place. Don't you think one couldn't figure out her way in a year if she even tried? With that much effort invested into ranting channeled into the game instead she could turn the Stray best speedrunner in the world already. But no, we no play, we rally a protest cus we special.
Don't even bother with advicing, buddy, that won't be appreciated anyway. Just toss a turd and move on.
Some don't seem to be listening. People have posted very eloquent explanations of their experience and pleas for it to be addressed. "Just sprint" or whatever -- they've tried everything they possibly can. Some people have played that section 40, 100 times, and lost.

NOT everyone has equal reflexes. People are also patently ignoring the fact that some players are differently abled. Accessibility issues, that's what that phrase means. It matters to devs or it does not. What are we to gather in this instance?

It is also not FUN for people who dislike that segment for any reason -- difficulty, distastefulness of it, it seeming wrong in tone with a 'cat game,' etc. etc. Part of the point about mentioning depression and anxiety, which someone stuck here out of context from earlier, was that more than one person was discussing how they game to raise and/or calm their moods and this game/segment made them more tense or anxious instead.

There is a significant segment of the gaming population who knowingly game to raise serotonin, or dopamine, or whatever...by having fun. People aren't listening on that aspect either.

Repeatedly telling us it's easy and 'just run' isn't helpful.

The market or demographic for this game will include people who like cats. Who wanted a cute non violent game. For players used to 'shooters' or GTA type of games, this is nothing. But you are not the entirety of the gaming community! Just one of the most vocal. And it is NOT like people bought those type of games...which require shooting and fast reflexes...and then complained it requires killing things and fast reflexes.

But again, if this doesn't impact others, there's no reason to reply to dismiss or mock our experiences and or concerns or wishes. Simply put it has nothing to do with others.

and that is why you Read the store page.

it is mostly 'cute cat game' but it have its violent sides.
Frankly it's the people who cannot tolerate our opinions who keep this going. Many of us have answered all these confrontations long ago. Many of these replies aren't in good faith but rather just mock other players / customers.

I really don't see why some here, keep attacking us for our take. There is no need to still be castigating people or judging them for not being the same type of gamer...let alone all this time later. "That's why you read the store page" or "just sprint" -- that is just snarking on or dismissing and -- I'm not sure why people need to jump in and do that.

Did anyone address their concerns specifically at any of the snarky ones? No. We are not talking to other gamers, do there's no need for other gamers to play judge and jury. It's to the devs. If you're not a dev, and you find our concerns annoying or silly...then maybe don't 'concern' yourself with them?? I'm really trying to stay polite, but, we haven't been treated politely by some.

The summer sale would've been a perfect time to update and/or roll out a DLC or fix for this issue. My block list gets longer because people have to jump in just to judge or scold us.
I recommend greatly to play with a controller. This will reduce most of the frustration some are having with the zurks. Always make large zig-zag movemenst (zag the moment you see them jump up) Jump over gaps when appropiate so they fall in. If you want to zap them, I found that it helps if you do so with the camera aimed behind you and pitched down a little.

Some people wanted a cute and non-violent game. If you count this as violent (...), then this is not it. It's still amazingly cute though. And worthwhile. You are not going to be scarred for life by this game as some seem to suggest. But you can't make everybody happy. Because before you know it people demand a Doom Eternal pacifist run, with cuddly demons that serve tea and biscuits.
No one said "scarred for life," Jimi.

This is what I mean about concerns being mocked. There is NO need. The recommendation of a joystick/controller has also been put forth, so really no need to say that again just for an excuse to wrap around the insult(s.) The last bit also. You've mocked us repeatedly. No need.

I thought if I blocked someone it wouldn't send notifications but it still does.

A joystick isn't practical for everyone, not everyone wants to spend additional money. The game should say so, if it requires one. I don't know if it does or not. But not everyone wants to, can or will. So that's not a real solution, either.

Can people not simply accept that others are different, with different opinions and stop trolling this topic with the same 'advice' over and over...with insults interspersed (which is the actual reason they continue to participate.) You're really only telling on yourselves, that you lack empathy or sensitivity and understanding, at least in this issue, and moreover that you find others' concerns or distress hilarious, and worth mocking for about a year now.

We get it. You don't agree. PLEASE move on. (As I said, this would all die down if people would cease coming in just to troll.)
No one gamer, or group of gamers, btw is/are actual gatekeepers for the definition(s) of gamer, game or gaming. This means that no one group sets the bar for validity of opinion or experience with gaming. Would that the gaming community would/could finally learn that?
I think I died 3 or 4 times when I first attempted this, but as others stated zig zag is key and I found the game overall far better suited to controller even tho I generally only game with kb & mouse. I'm a huge cat lover but I also was fully aware this wasn't a cute cosy casual game from the Steam game page and from checking a few youtube vids. Not all games will suit all people so research is ideal to ensure its a style that will suit your needs/wants from a game. I'm hopeful for a Stray 2 I need more story of what happens next.

"a Doom Eternal pacifist run, with cuddly demons that serve tea and biscuits." Funny you said that. In the original DOOM you got a mod kind of like that. You "shoot" flowers instead of dangerous bullets and some other weird hippy stuff :P

hahaha :) sorry I missed that :P
I'm a bit disappointed they never added an easy difficulty option. Between the game drawing in more casual players and the zurk sequences being rather tricky for these players, it really would have been thoughtful - and smart, to not alienate part of the player base for future games. This is a pretty common complaint, after all.
@JinxTheWorld and a few others: Frankly the people trolling this topic are verbally abusive. That's all that amounts to. Get over the fact that not everyone games the way you do, and stop trolling us.
Or get over the fact that the game is not what you expected and move on.
And get over the fact that people who do not share your opinion are allowed to speak.

Anyway, I finished this lovely game. I enjoyed every minute of it :PartyCat:
I hope we get a sequal. With difficulty settings or even zurk-free for those who want it.
@Jimi -- still here trolling? No one said you all 'cannot speak.' What I've asked some of you who are doing so, not to do, is repeatedly mock, troll and insult us. Read some of the things some of you have typed. They're nothing but personal attacks. And this actually has *nothing to do with any of you* -- again, you'd not be impacted * at all * by a toggle.

Our advocating for a game we can comfortably play actually has nothing to do with anyone who doesn't need any changes. So I am not sure why anyone had to attack that once, let alone -- as someone pointed out -- "for nearly a year." The simplistic solutions were replied to long ago. Like I said, if some of you are sick of this topic, maybe stop coming in just to troll it. Why not wish others to have as much fun as you keep saying you had, w/this game?

Why act like gate keepers, especially in this way?
