it would have been easy to show them reuniting, even just a pic.. which means a dlc or part 2 is guaranteed, hopefully they wanted to do a lot with it, hoping for a large forest/ruins filled with bots n bugs.

Okay, now I'm glad I got a refund.

After such a lackluster game to begin with, an unsatisfying ending like you describe would have really make me cranky.

Nope, it is currently en vouge that games have a so-called bittersweet end.
This should make games more unique and closer to reality.
Nobody wants to have a happy ending anymore with the critic groaning that is too boring.

*sad-sigh*

Seriously, just a sound clip of a few cats meowing in the background would have done it for me..

I very much liked the ending. I mean, I hated how it ended.. my wife had to come check on me when I blurted out "Oh, no, my toy!"

And yes, I did curl up next to B12 and slept through the entire opening of the roof, and I was equally disturbed that our Cat left the broken toy behind - but then, this is a Cat, something intelligent enough to know that sentiment interferes with survival, which explains why all the world's dogs were eaten by Zerks.

I would like to make this inquiry though, to see what everyone else has to think:

B12 pointed out, quite a few times, how "robots were imitating humans", then the Midtown revelation hit B12, and made me really wonder: Are the robots actually imitating humans, or is it possible the robots are ALL like B12, and have simply forgotten their origins?

I do hope this is merely a launching pad for a new franchise, and that what follows is vastly more than what we have here. I would very warmly welcome a full-blown, massive open-world, more RPG/Survival-esque variant of cats and robot tales.

I also had the thought that all the robots were humans uploaded into machines to survive the apocalypse. Would make the prison scene that much darker.

I loved the game, but not just giving me the satisfaction of reuniting with my cat family was really bothersome to me.

Agreed. There's only two acceptable reasons to do this, and that's if they're trying to start a franchise or want to add some DLC later on. I would love a "Stray 2" or something with above ground levels, maybe exploring a ruined city to get back to our family. Here's hoping...

The family being outside the door at exactly when you break out seems unrealistic. However I did want to meet up with the gang at the end, as I though it was the purpose of the story.

Could easily get a Stray 2, where you’re exploring the surface which could also have just as many ruins and robots.

Agreed. The ending was - and I don't say this lightly - pretty crap. And no, not just because it failed to tie up quite literally the foundational loose end, but because it veered off into silly "heroic sacrifices" for no reason. The whole tonal shift with Midtown is already pretty offputting, but characters doing heroic sacrifices one after another just embarrassingly bad writing. Especially since I saw it coming a mile away, after Clementine.

Honestly, I wish amateur writers would work to understand their own boundaries and not try to shoot directly for breathy drama. It never comes across convincing and just serves to expose the artifice of the whole affair. What was the downside to keeping the drone alive and setting up for a sequel? What was wrong with just showing the cat reuniting with the others? You can still do DLC and a sequel with them. The game STARTED with them, after all.

It honestly feels like a satisfying conclusion was sacrificed on the alter of pretentious writing.

I definitely think you should be able to take B-12 with you. Sure, it won't accomplish anything since the robot is broken, but the cat probably doesn't fully understand that. It almost might make the ending more sad because he probably thinks his little friend will wake up again later, but we know it won't.

There's also clearly some sequel potential here. For starters, the scientist's assumption that all humans are gone is clearly not based on much evidence. Walled City 99 got wiped out, but I doubt that was the only city of its kind. Clearly they were wrong about thinking the outside was devoid of life since the cats were out there.

All all say is the lights flicker near the opening of bunker, just like the did when B12 did not have a body. Not saying it is that AI, but maybe another friendly one that learned from B12 is waking up? Like the control center AI?

I thought my game was glitched when I tried picking him up and went to lie down instead LOL
Really a missed opportunity since we did carry him around before, so the animations and mechanics are already there. I might even assume everybody pressing the action key at that moment intended to pick him up instead of lying down again...

The same goes for reuniting with your family, a little post-credits scene where you suddenly hear meowing in the distance amd the ending along with the whole experience would have been a lot more wholesome.

Honestly the ending could be "fixed" way easier than ME3's...

I kinda enjoyed the ending honestly. It would be easy to show them reunited for a cheap emotional beat, but to instead show the cat losing all its friends, save the day, and just walk away... it's like an old school ronin type of character, the lonely cowboy riding into the sun[rise]. I like it and it only makes me want to see where the cat goes next.

i thought that might imply a part of b12 survived on the net again

I KNOW, IT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BROKE MY HEART. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CAT FRIENDS!!? That would've somewhat made up for the sacrifice of our drone friend

Or like every Indie game ever made, and a large portion of AAA titles. The "bittersweet ending" isn't really something unique when damn near every game does it any more. That's the easy way out. Kill everyone in stupid ways right at the end, give the hero a Pyrrhic victory, bask in indie game acclaim. By this point, an actual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ satisfying ending is the white whale of video games.
