Why I'm not buying the game as a cat lover
After watching tons of YouTube videos (Thank you to the content creators) the game looks pretty mediocre to me. I don't like the cyberpunk city theme of having to deal with robots. Why did the developers thought that was good instead of allowing us to explore an overpopulated human city by adding potential dangers like... getting captured by animal control and being sent to the pound (which allows us to use strategy to find a way to escape). I would have gotten this game if it had a realistic and more appealing theme.

This is the setting that the developers chose. More stylized and "game-y" than a realistic cat life simulator. Maybe some other studio will make a game that focuses more on being a cat, doing only cat things.

There is a prison escape sequence.
It's a fantasy world with story aimed at children, should be obvious as soon as an animal becomes capable to understand vocal or written language. Realism isn't on the focus, you'll have to wait for an actual cat simulator game.

Dunno what you're talking about. Game's been getting glowing reviews and it's still doing very well, it obviously was a good idea.

And for the OP: this is not a cat simulator so if that's what you were looking for it's not for you. In my opinion though, I'm glad it has this format. You can make your cat do a ton of things a normal cat would (scratching, jumping inconveniently, sleeping away practically everywhere, interrumpt people, cause messes, rub against them... and you still have a story to keep you entertained when you get bored of exploring and being a little ♥♥♥♥. Cats don't live in a vacuum, the robots are not human but they're people and even stray cats interact with people at some point. And this story is amazing.
I think your commentary is out of place. The game is NOT mediocre, it's just not what you wanted. This is the game the developers wanted to make, not the one you want to play and that's fine, but that doesn't mean the game is bad and your post might be misleading for potential new players, please amend it.

Definitely aimed at children, the general vibe and the appearance of the features, no gore, no horror, pretty much toned down violence, simple tasks and objectives.
Maybe not appealing to you lol. The game's great. The character and world designs are interesting.
That's what the developers wanted to make and they did an amazing job.

Play something else.
Lord Aris dropping truth bombs left and right. When he said GTAV is a better "cat game" than Stray, he had me dying laughing.

Maybe what they decided to make is good and you just have bad taste?
Complaining that a game where you play as a cat isn't very realistic... A game that you haven't even played...

Ok Boomer.
Definitely don't think this game is aimed towards children. Just because the violence is toned down and the game isn't Elden Ring difficulty doesn't mean children were its audience. The story and themes of this game are quite dark and dystopian... stuff that would go way over most children's heads. Plus, a children's game would have had a nice and tidy happy ending with all the cats reuniting at the end, not the open-ended ambiguous ending it has.

What odd complaints. You wanna be a real cat and lick your balls and sleep all day?
Funny way of saying "i cant read steam store description of a game before complaining what it isnt"

You don't know the difference between a Game and a cat simulator?
This one, Stray. Is a game. A game set in a cyberpunk setting.

You will not support/buy it regardless of all the "yada", so the "if" is irrelevant.
Also why do people need to announce they will not buy certain things or that certain thing does not appeal to them?

Main Character Syndrome
I'm not going to buy God of War because the series doesn't realistically represent the life of a Spartan warrrior
